I'm sure we could find room somewhere. What about that Ocean Airlines freighter near the control tower. We could turn that into some kind of crew hotel.

It would be just like camping.:hmm:

Too late. The Scousers came and dragged it away last week.

I'd heard of one the recent plans for it, involved it being craned onto a barge off the side of CLK, then taken around to the waters off Hoi Ha in the Sai Kung country park, and carefully lowered (dumped!) there to become a reef/diving attraction.
One of the airbus skippers who lived out there had been working on this for a while. Reckon it'd be a win for fish, divers and the HKIA scrap aircraft parking department.

Well that sounds like a great idea toss an old jet into the ocean what about the residual fuel in the tanks and the hydraulic fluid grease etc that should create a nice toxic environment for the fish

I would have thought that residual fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid etc would do something to improve the quality of the Hong Kong waters, by diluting all the far more toxic contaminants! :p

You may recall that a number of years ago the "Rainbow Warrior" was sunk to provide a dive wreck in NZ. It had the support of all groups.
Sinking a 747 carcass is an excellent plan if done correctly.I'd dive on it.What a hoot! BTW,aluminium(aloominum) is 100% biodegradable in sea water(it takes a while though).

this has been going on in SYD for a while as well. next time check out the big carpark near the tower and rwy 25. i've heard they have a good set up, bbq's etc. the more senior guys get to sleep in the briefing room under the desks which fit a swag perfectly and closer to the showers in T2.

it's amazing, these guys just can't let go of their GA days and good for them.

as far as I recall she was bombed and sunk by the French Secret Service on direct orders of F. Mitterand to prevent the Muroa Atoll nuke protests...

Your memory serves you well. The bomb killed 2 people onboard I think.
She was patched up,re-floated,cleaned out, towed to a well chosen site near the Cavalli Islands,& sunk with great ceremony. In the Bay of Islands you can dive on the wreck of the Leander class frigate F421 HMNZS Canterbury. Check out www.divenz.com (http://www.divenz.com)

As I remember it, only one photographer died. The agents had placed two charges; the first was intended to scare everyone off the ship and the second, to sink it. One guy went back for his camera & equipment a little too late after the first charge.

The two agents were caught (one M and one F posing as a couple), as the story goes in NZ, because a petrol pump attendant fluent in French overheard the two agents discussing the operation while filling their tank.

The French defense minister took the fall and resigned over the incident.
