Etihad Airways will launch daily flights to Cape Town (via Johannesburg) this September, the carrier’s fifth route on the African continent.

Etihad will commence the flights on September 30, operating via the airline’s existing daily service to Johannesburg and using Airbus A330 aircraft. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier also serves Khartoum, Cairo and Casablanca on the African continent.

Commenting on the announcement James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ CEO said:

“Etihad Airways is committed to expanding its flight network across the world and we are delighted to add flights to Cape Town to our schedule from September. In the coming 12 months demand for flights to South Africa will grow immensely, especially with the 2010 FIFA World Cup next summer.”

Etihad recently announced a revamp of its long-haul first and business class products (see online news May 10). For more information visit etihadairways.com.
