What are the emergency commands you are trained to shout at your airline during an evacuation/emergency landing

I know at QF crew are trained to shout "Brace Brace Brace Heads Down Stay Down" continously until the aicraft comes to a complete stop. Not sure about evacuation etc

Not sure if it's the same at Virgin/Jetstar

I am curious to see how much they differ between airlines, as I think standardised commands would perhaps be wise due to different languages etc

Jack, if you are a Qantas crew member you should probably review your AEPM with regards to the use of brace commands.

easyJet have recently brought into line their shout commands and SOPs with that of BA so when it buys BA it will be easier to integrate the crew. The acquisition of GB was just a trial run for the final solution.

Jack there's no standarisation although there should be - all Australian Operators have different commands - some are logical - some are not - let's hope they are not practically tested with real pax.

If your keen though - have a read: Like al good govt funded research there are some valuable reccomendations............... which is probably why they have never been acted upon.

ON EVACUATION - "SEATBELTS OFF, LEAVE EVERYTHING, COME THIS WAY", "JUMP AND SLIDE"

These are the shout commands for EY in case you wanted to know the specific airline.. I'd be interested to know what they are for other carriers as well..

BA:

Fire

" HEADS DOWN COVER YOUR MOUTH AND NOSE"

Planed Emergency

"BRACE BRACE" at approx 200' AGL

"UNFASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS AND COME THIS WAY"

"WAIT WAIT SLIDE INFLATING"

and depending on door type

"JUMP JUMP (FORM TWO LINES)"

or "STAY ON YOUR FEAT KEEP MOVING (FORM TWO LINES)"

Unplanned Ditching the same except

"UNFASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS GRAB YOUR LIFE JACKTS AND COME THIS WAY"

There are more bits possible

We had
"EMERGENCY, GRAB YOUR ANKLES"

then
"HEADS DOWN, STAY DOWN, BRACE, BRACE"

and then with the introduction of lie-flat beds
"EMERGENCY BRACE"

Strangely enough, no standardised commands for evacuating, although I do remember singing "waiting, waiting, slide inflating" haha...

My current employer is much more by-the-book (and the book is larger!)...

Actually, slight correction, at QF they train brace commands to be given until all pax comply, then stop. No point shouting thru an impact, you'll bite your own tongue off & be no use to anybody!

Brace commands are also only used at specific times and most likely not in an unprepared emergency where the first sign is hitting something.

Commands for doors differ on location & type of exit/door being used (e.g. overwing exits, slides/no slides etc) So while some standardisation could be done, it would still differ by aircraft type a carrier is using. Some of these commands have come about from prior experiences with different types of exits & doors actually used in an evac.

Premeditated: "Brace, Brace, stay down, stay low."

Unpremeditated: "Bend down, protect your head, stay down, stay low."

Try the unpremediated commands for yourself, say them to someone who doesn't know the correct brace position, sat in a seat. It's amazing how close they get to the correct brace position!

That was my idea! ;)

Evac commands: "Unfasten seatbelts, come this way, NO handluggage."
