Once upon a time, we had a great airshow just outside Leicester, at Leicester Airport / Stoughton Aerodrome. I'm not sure when it started, but I have memories of being there (or in nearby fields!) as a child in the late '70s. The final one was, I think 1992 or thereabouts. It was always held on the August Bank Holiday Sunday.

There are a few photos in my parents' albums from these shows, but taken on 110 and 126 film cameras!

I just wondered if anyone out there has any memories and / or photos of these events?

I have plenty of memories, which I might add in in due course, when I'm not so tired!

I took a lot of video of XH558 from the road between Little stretton and Houghton under the approach in the early 90s
It is on VHS C but will get it on youtube sometime

also when she flew her last flight with the RAF en route to Brunty over cottesmore.
Never went to the airshow as a punter but spent hours along with many others watching from the car. Maybe why it failed as it was hard to stop folks form not paying
Remember concorde doing flybys with paying PAX!

Also watching the kings cup air race that used to be held there
fantastic low level flying at the end

on a related "non paying" note, tollerton aerodrome in nottingham was pretty good in the 70s.

a few schoolmates and myself used to cycle over and skip the fence,
hike over the farmers field and bivvy in a disused pillbox.
come morning, climb onto the roof for a grandstand view.

as said pilbox was under the flightline and low level "beatups" were par for the course, this led to a few "jesus, this f:mad:kers low moments!!

1977, and i can still picture a seafury, full chat and VERY, VERY low,
watching through binoculars and ducking as the loon flew over:eek:

happy days, warmer summers etc!!!!

I remeber being at the airshow in the 1980's when doing my Flying Scholarship in 1984 as an Air Cadet. One of the last Vulcan displays if I remember will have to look in the loft to see if I still have the photos.
