Hi!
I was watching a 738 takeoff this morning and just as they rotated i saw smoke coming from both mainlandinggears. I've never seen that happen before so it struck me as quite odd.
Any theories?

Smoke? Are you sure? Wasn't spray from a wet run-way was it?

If it was on the ground, could be the spray from a wet runway or dust from the runway ? If it was in the air, could be the brakes being applied and the dust coming off.

No rain today. The runway was dry. It came off the tires just after they had rotated and the main gears were still on the tarmac.

What was the smoke's colour ? And where were you in relation to the a/c when the incident happened ?

No reason for a puff of smoke at that time in normal ops.
Could it have been a brief low pressure area creating water vapour such as seen of wing tips / flaps etc in more humid weather?

Brake dust can do it.
