Legends 09 ( FW 190)

Flying Legends at Duxford today. Only one word to describe it. BRILLIANT. Slickest, best flown show in the world. No change there then! Give yourself a big treat and go there tomorrow. You couldn't possibly regret it. I'm off to Oshkosh, Wisconsin next week, where the numbers may be bigger, but the quality of the flying poorer. Set the video for the German G.P. and do Duxford tomorrow.

I have a slot there tomoz. Weather today not great, tomoz is better. Forcast SCT030 with TEMPO SHRA which is ok. Did much fly today?

Absolutely everything flew. The show was completely unaffected by weather. By 2pm it was warm, and by three pm onwards there were large sunny periods. We wore shorts and no sweaters throughout afternoon. Top Legends display. and I have seen all of them.

I agree with 'Agaricus', it's real enough and technically a 're-build', not a replica. Even the engine is a design based on the original. Flug-Werk have my admiration. Well done chaps. (any chance of a lend, would love to fly past the Fleet- Managers office window, upside down in one of those).

What engine is on that FW190?


Russian Shvetsov ASh-82T 1900hp 14 cyl 2 x row radial, which is NOT a Russian copy of the original BMW 801 radial engine.

Batchy, stunning pics mate - quite the best I've seen.

I'd always thought that the Flug Work 190s were completely new reproductions rather than being built around any original parts. Whatever, it looked and sounded magnificent. Shame that we couldn't have had a duo...

A huge bouquet to TFC for putting on a fantastic show against the odds. They are obviously more persuasive with the weather gods than with the CAA, whose timing has been rather unfortunate. I hope that new permits are issued very quickly now so that the rest of the fleet can be giving an airing or six before winter gloom descends upon us all again.

Correct, with the exception of the tail wheel assemblies IIRC, these being the only original parts used as they found a batch of them stored somewhere IIRC.

There are some significant differences from the original design though, hence the problem of not getting UK-CAA certification.

Did it depart Duxford about 5:20PM this afternoon? Saw a rather sleek, pretty rorty aircraft pass over Linton about 5:30PM heading east. Never seen a Fw190 airborne before and it was a way away but it looked and sounded loverly.

Terrain, the Fw190 was seen heading home over Kent yesterday (not by me) with the gear down - result of a problem with the tail wheel not locking down properly after the balbo flight on Sunday.

Lovely pics, Batchy. I spent a delightful four days there with a new video camera. Amazed at my results. The previous ones were driven by steam compared to the new one. No praise high enough for the show, best flying in the world. Oshkosh for me next week. More quantity, but not the quality.

Cracking photo's. Anyone have a favorite display (apart from the FW 190)? My money is on the P-51 trio. A very smooth and accurately flown display a bit reminicent of the Spitfire display team of a few years ago. The other one that sticks in my mind was the Bleriot, not for the display but the fact that the Swedish pilot intends to fly it across the English Channel at the end of the month to commemorate the 1909 crossing! I wish him luck.

Favourite?. Spitfire tailchase. The ONLY place in the world that you can see this. I just wish the CAA observer in his chair would look at the traffic on the motorway so they can turn tighter at the motorway end. Greatest flying in the World at Duxford, of course. Many thanks to everybody involved.
