Base qualifications for modular...

Hi,
I'm currently 31hrs into my PPL, progressing nicely.
I'm 30 years of age with no significant qualifications to my name, just average GSCEs and a HNC.

I'm researching the modular path to achieving an fATPL.
I am in no rush, although have set myself a desired time-line for certain goals, this could place me at the end of my hour building phase around the end of next year.

I could not find any up-to-date answers on existing threads or accurate info from FTOs sites, so my question is, as I have no A-Levels, is this going to be a significant problem me?

I do understand there are many hurdles to jump yet – having jumped a few already.
Just trying take everything into consideration now.

Nope shouldn't be a problem. As long as you have the ££ to keep paying the flight school, and can pass the ATPL exams that is all you need.

I was in a similar position with my qualifications, but that didn't stop me from getting my f/atpl. The thing that has stopped me getting a job though, no amount of qualifications will change !!.

Of course you could look at it from a different angle with such little pilot jobs available and think, the better qualifications you get now might get you a better job in order to pay for the CPL / ME-IR / MCC etc and keeping current.

I'm certainly not banking everything on getting a job as a pilot.

For a younger person at school or college, I would agree but when DB777 is already Age: 30 I wouldn't bother. I'd just crack on with the PPL and aim for as higher marks as possible in the ATPL's.

I don't think the airlines are as bothered about school qualifications for career changers in their 30's, they will look more at what jobs you have had in the mean time and life experience you have gained since that you can bring to the role.

For young wannabe's straight out of school/college etc, there is little else to go on which is why for younger people qualifications are more important.

I agree with you LJ, there really is very little point in re-sitting GCSE's or A levels for that matter.

However, if at 30 you work in IT Support with no certifications and only armed with a degree in IT, then doing an MCSE in order to get a possible pay rise at work or to find work elsewhere isn't that bad an idea. He'll also be making his back up plan stronger.

I am in IT and I'm trying to better myself in the industry just in case I never get that break in aviation. the more certifications I get the better the job, the better the pay, the quicker I can get the CPL/IR/MCC underway and if all fails I'll still have many years/qualifications/certifications in an industry where there is plenty of money to be made.

... I guess what I am trying to say is don't put all your eggs in one basket.
