Dakota c/n 9043 G-AKNB (FD789) Photo. Is there one out there.

Is there a photo out there of Dakota c/n 9043 G-AKNB (FD789) in its RAF colours back in 1982. It attended the Duxford Airshow 13th june of that year. It was at Blackpool in late august of 1982 and early september 1982. In the september it was damaged by a storm at Blackpool. I can't find a photo of her anywhere on the net or in any books or magazines from that period or later of here in the RAF camouflage colour scheme.
There's photos of her in her Intra days and later as USAAC craft in the USA, but non from 1982 in RAF colours. Has anyone got a photo in there private collections of her from 1982 or any visits to Duxford that year. I Would love to see one, if one exists. It belonged to Aces High I beleave back in 1982.

Fantastic photo Amos, it's just missing lee marvin in the photo. Must of gone for a coffee break.
For those scratching there heads, this was painted up in RAF colours to appear in the Dirty Dozen Next mission movie in 1985.

Wow.. I had no idea. I first saw this Dak in BEA colours at London Airport on 1st November, 1958. Sadly I never got a piccy. Does anyone know if it's still about please?

As Srobarts pictures show, 'KNB was still active in the States in 2005. Also, 'KNB 's film career started back in 1976, when, while still with Intra, it featured in The Eagle has Landed with Michael Caine. Intra did this publicity shot :-

........and I did the flying!! A lot of the parachuting shots with the SAS somehow bypassed the "Eagle", and turned up in "Dogs of War", or somesuch. A real tonic indeed to see Sir Sefton Brancker (BEA) looking so pristine in those later web pictures, I'd no idea where she ended up....there was a rumour that she had been turbined by Basler! In Intra, she always hinted at her well-maintained past in BEA, and was the only one of our fleet not fitted with electric fuel booster pumps, the starting sequence involving a really good work out with the wobble pump! She was a lot of peoples' favourite aeroplane, including me, and was Intra's first acquisition.

Those last pictures were from 2005, anyone know her present whereabouts?

Looking at the web pix via srobarts above, that's also me pictured in 'NB as Clyden EI-BDU .....it must be, because they only had one crew at that time,(me + F/O), and when we had our days off, it didn't fly!

I found the website of old NB's owners with a very comprehensive history of the aircraft-

I don't know where they got it from but there are some minor errors in the Silver Ciy & BUA(CI) bits in she was always based at Blackpool during that period.

It's absolutely correct that she is the oldest ex RAF Dak

I remember G-AKNB very well from her time with Silver City at Blackpool.

As far as I know, all the time she was owned by Silver City/BUA/BU(CI)A she was based at Blackpool. She was bought from BEA along with G-ALPN.

She was never used on cross-channel air-ferrys and was never based in the Channel Islands (to the best of my knowledge)

G-AKNB had double doors, resumably having been used by BEA as a freighter at some time.

G-ALPN was a proper "Pionair" with a single drop down door with steps built in and a small luggage door to the rear of the main door. Silver City soon removed the steps and made the door side opening to reduce weight. (My father worked on the conversion)

Both these aircraft upon arrival at Silver City were given what was called the "Transair Mod", which comprised of fitting fibreglass undercarriage doors which were closed by bungee rubbers and fitted against the protruding mainwheels and improved the single engined take-off performance. Both aircraft also were also fitted with disc brakes at the same time as the short hops Blackpool / Isle of Man burnt out the original Bendix drum brakes in next to no time.

How wonderfull that this old lady is still flying in the USA.
