Ski jump vs catapult.
OK, If you want to launch a modern fast Jet with a resepctable payload and fuel, then catapulting is the best bet. Ski jumps are a good way of getting a fast jet off the deck if you don't want to spend money on either the ship or the aircraft (Steel ramps are relatively cheap and have no moving parts, whilst land based aircraft do not need redesigned undercarriage to take off using one, although they will need strengthening to withstand deck landing). It all depends on what you are prepared to pay for.
