Russia resumes Su-24 flights after 10-day suspension | Top Russian news and analysis online | 'RIA Novosti' newswire (http://en.rian.ru/mlitary_news/20090629/155382658.html)

I had a translation colleague who was working on Hermès, the European shuttle that went the way of Buran.

A Sukhoi splash at Le Bourget in the course of a professional visitors' day happened exactly when folks were looking around for a European ejection system for Hermès. There was Martin-Baker for the seats, but ESA wanted a more complete package deal.

Well, after flameout, the Su pilot ejected low, the first drogue messed up, the main chute deployed and the guy was limping at the press conference he gave about half an hour later later where he explained how he took a little spare time to veer the plane away from peopled areas. Thirty days later he was back on flight duty with his employer.

Any the folks at AMBDA (aka Dassault) got all the mfr's specs and, after the translators, started reformatting them to meet ESA requirements.
