I was fortunate recently to have a Photo. visit to "Charlgrove"
Martin Baker's home of their Meteors.
The pilot of WL 419 was taking it to "Northolt".
He did me proud, before departing he did some very nice
Approaches/Passes to best effect.
A selection follows for viewing and enjoyment.
The other Black Meteor WA638,was in for Maintenance, so hope for a return visit.
Watch this space!
The whole visit was made more for me as I was brought up on the Fifties Jets.

Pure Nostalgia.

Thank you for those, they're great. I like the rocket scorch marks behind the rear cockpit, very operational! :ok:

When I was young, WL419 was old. She is still old as I am now. Memories...

Great Pics OP.F, thanks, stirred a few nostalgic brain cells........

Pedant note - Chalgrove not Charlgrove

When I was doing National Service and stationed at RAF Benson, a visit to Chalgrove in the Signals Sqdn. Bedford truck occupied some frequent and enjoyable few hours while I serviced the ILS 19 Outer Marker equipment just off the edge of the airfield. Istr an F-100 was there for some of 1961? as well as the Meteors and a Hunter twin seat. Plenty of 'blue note' line-ups by the Martin Baker pilot/pilots starting over Benson [which was never busy in those days] and ending very low and fast across the Chalgrove tarmac. Then, for me, a return via Berwick Salome and some local beer in the Chequers or the Home Sweet Home in Roke.

Final surge of remaining brain cell... the Chalgrove peritrack was used by Austin/Morris to test their new Minis and 1100's. Also the occasional prototype Austin/Morris/MG could be seen whizzing round.

I cannot believe that a Austin or Morris ever did any 'whizzing'! An MG, perhaps....

Remember when BL invented the square wheel? Or rather the 'quartic' steering wheel in that pile of poo called the Austin Allegro!
