Hi, I live about 10 miles N of SOU. I've noticed recently that BE aircraft seem to lower the u/carriage later in the aproach than previously. Is this airline policy?
NB This is not a rant. I use BE from SOU quite regularly and I think it's a good service.

Any aeroplane, even 747s and smaller jets, can happily lower the gear at 1500' above the airport, which is 5 miles out. Rather than ask the question you did, I would think you could better ask why anybody near where you live at 10 miles out should have the gear down! Later lowering of the gear is encouraged for fuel economy and noise reasons. There is no reason to ever have it down higher than 2000' (less than 7 miles out) under any normal circumstances
