SA ATP Exams

Hello All,

What is the story with the SA ATP Exams now? Is it pass 1 and then carry or is it still the passing 3 deal? Is there talk that NAV plotting will be removed as well?

Would be interested to know so that one does not miss something important. Been trying all day to open one or two of the Adobe files on CAA website, but guess what...cant open the ones I need!?!

Hey JL,

ATP exams are now written the same as Com. That being you have unlimited attempts, and can write one at a time. You still only have 18 months to complete them though from the date you obtain your first credit.

With regards to Plotting.. it was decided at the last DE conference that it be scrapped with immediate effect. However, I've still yet to see formal wrtitten confirmation of this anywhere. So if anyone out there knows more about this... please advise.

When does the JAA-standards kick in? So you can still carry on one subject until when!?

:confused:Regarding the plotting, check with CAA. Apparently they plan on changing it but NOT dropping it! However it would not be the 1st time that the CAA has more than one opinion, depending on who you ask!:ugh:

Yeah, these F/O's nowdays, wow! Back in our day, we had to walk 50 miles in the hail and snow, then write our ATP's in the blood of an eagle on a cave wall, then defeat 10 DE's in hand to hand combat after stealing our own 747 for the flight test -and that was just to book for the ATP test! :D

So right you are!! I have complete understanding for this!! Back in My days A guy that flew a Baron 55 was an absolute god and I had thee greatest respect for them!! Nowadays there is no more respect from F/O's, Just because they took away the cockpit (Sorry Flightdeck) Gradient, we are now all equal and therefore a little twenty year old can tell the captain to go stuff himself?? I am a great believer in CRM, but there has to be respect!

In my day we had to scrap ourselves off the pavement before bedtime, drag ourselves into the sewer, eat maggots for dinner and be up before it was even the next day begging for used chewing gum, just to be able to afford the opportunity to have some pilot spit on us.....if we were really lucky, a PPL student would thrash us within an inch of of lives, telling us we were worse than dried dog sh$t, make us down a litre of used oil and remind us we would amount to nothing more than a pervert staring thru the fence at the end of the runway......that was just to get your SAAF application form.

Funny how things have not changed much....meaning, "I had the sh%t kicked out of me, therefore, I must serve it with interest...".

How about we move on and not only design new aircraft, but new mentalities to pilot them ?

Be honest..with a comment like, it`s all to common in our F/O`s, do you do plotting in the cockpit..? Everybody that had walked or crawled out the old DCA, and for that matter the new CAA had within hrs forgotten what they just wrote..and can you walk in there now and pass any subject..No, what we need is more flying, more sim..we all know how the exams work..its more about money then anything else..and with 3 sessions these days the CAA is really coining it..?
