HI all

As someone who's lived under the approach path to EDI (Livingston) for many years, a recent VERY low B737 got me thinking: what reasons are there for the following 'abnormal' sights?

1: Aircraft obviously much lower than normal on the approach at a given point
2: Strange 'arrival routes' - for instance arriving from the south, low, and making a final turn ON the UW NDB as opposed to approaching from the west as per normal?
3: I've noticed a siginificant increase in general traffic flying odd routes recently - possibly going to/from a hold, but certainly not something I've been used to seeing - had I been it would not be worthwhile asking about!

cheers

Pilots opting for for visual approaches in some situations.

Other possibilities are other traffic, where the controller is squeezing a slower aircraft onto the approach ahead of something faster.

Weather can make a difference... I'm sure there could be some unusual approaches flown this week in the UK due to storm clouds over the approach.

Thanks for that.
