Hi all, thought you might enjoy a chuckle looking at the information that this government run career website has, it brings tears to the eyes...

I like the bit that says flying instructors often leave to become pilots!!!!!!

From the website:

At the C-category level, new instructors often work part time on a casual basis, and are paid per flying hour. If they have full-time positions, they typically earn between $24,000 and $28,000 a year. As permanent employees, they may be expected to take on additional duties such as cleaning planes and paperwork.

B-category instructors usually earn between $30,000 and $35,000.

A-category instructors usually earn between $50,000 and $110,000.

Seems about right to me... As in all things aviation, you just have to click the button that says "more salary information"!

Yes, "average pay" is a fairly useless statement. It only takes a few people earning significantly more than everyone else to drag the average up.

Wouldn't you say there are more B cats on a fly hourly wage than on contract?

Who else apart from Massey works a 37hr week when instructing?!!

You get paid for instructing? Dam... where is my pay packet! I thought the few dollars was for covering petrol costs to/from the aerodrome :}
