An Aerocare (Bloemfontein) air ambulance, en route from Capetown to East London, made an emergency landing at Lanseria yesterday.
Apparently the nosewheel failed to retract and the pilot decided to land at Lanseria rather than fly on to East London. There were four occupants, two believed to be patients.
The aircraft landed at Lanseria on a runway parellel to the main runway and slid for about 200m before coming to a halt. All four occupants were evacuated safely.

:eek:Saw the whole thing happening in real time!! Well done to the Pilotos, good landing and to add to the stress bad weather, eish these are the days that you wish you had stayed on the ground!!

The Reason for the detour, I believe is that the Aircraft is maintained at Lanseria! And depending on the seriousness of the Patients Condition, not a bad decision! Good Emergency Facilities Too!:D

That is what the logical deduction would have been - a good sounding decision though - probably no figures published for a not fully retracted nose wheel but wondered if they imposed their own speed restriction and'or factored in any sort of increased fuel consumption. Some feedback on that would be interesting.
Good of the pilot to have done the opting for the shorter of the parellels - possibly closer to the hangars anyway, just skid across the veldt into the waiting arms of the maintanance man?

Saw the whole thing happen. A/c enroute from Cape Town to East London, decided to divert to Lanseria when the nose gear failed to extend at East London. Actuator that failed, so no way for the nose wheel to come out. No patient/s on board, only 2 crew and 2 medical personnel. Landed at Lanseria, nose wheel collapsed, good landing, with minimal damage. No injuries. Good flying by the pilots! Well done!!!:ok:
