Hey there guys

I have looked for info on air freight ops in Australia, but not much seems to be out there.

I'm an ex RAAF transport pilot [Caribou] and Instructor [PC-9, CT4E], 2500 hours total. I want to fly part time air freight on twin pistons or turbo props. Don't have an ATPL, but do have the rest.

Any advice on how I can get into the scene [especially part time]? Do you know any operators who fly regional interstate freight?

Much appreciated

Red - certainly not a good time. Have to remember there is a large bunch of fully qualified Metro guys and girls that just last week have been made redundant from Pel Air. All the other operators have in general had their work reduced.

Major current players are
1. GAM - Aerocommanders and Dornier 228s
2. Toll - Metros

Rest of them are smaller operators with stuff ranging from PA31s down to Air Vans. Esp for Toll you would be in line behind guys with large amounts of Metro time along with their endorsements.

I've shunted this over to the Oz forum, perhaps some more advice available.

From another forum.............

QANTAS Freighter is starting a Trans-Tasman service on the Sydney - Auckland - Christchurch - Sydney route, using B767-200F leased from Air Transport Int'l (ATI)

QF7524 AKL0500 - 0620CHC0720 - 1005SYD 76F x167

I don't think this will be easing the unemployment situation, for Aussies at least.

RR,

If you want to do part time frieght runs in pistons I can think of a couple of places:

Airtex in Bankstown

Tasfast in Moorabbin

AFAIK, GAM (Adelaide, Essendon, not sure of the other locations) tend to employ full-time, but I may be wrong.

Hope this helps,

Out of pure interest what kind of experience do you need to get a gig with Texair or the like?

There is plenty of smaller freight that has been shunted to GA operators that have the equipment to move such little amounts.

Interesting as its additional revenue we wont turn away, there is money to be made still in freight if you know what you are doing
