Open Heart Surgery Will I pass?

Ahh! I am now panicing a little after speeking to a flying school they said I should call the CAA at Gatwick (medical people to ask) does anyone have any ideas if I will beable to get the medical to allow me to get a PPL...

When I was born I had a hole in my heart, in 1993 (born 1991) they corrected the hole and I was told by the Dr (well my mum and dad I was only 3) that I would lead a normall life blah blah blah...

I have not had any issues since etc...

Opinions?

hey there mate,

Do you know the correct medical name of your "hole in the heart" as im sure there are several different types of holes with different names. If you know the correct name try doing a search in this manual.

It should be able to help you out.

If you cannot find any relevant information then do what i did and write to the CAA with a detailed (positive) medical report about your specialist or GP and ask whether it would be a problem before undertaking the tests for a JAR CLASS 1. Saves you spending money and getting turned down.

Hi mate,

I am very sorry if I worried you by suggesting that you speak to the CAA (I wa the lady that you spoke to yesterday). I was just concerned that you might spend money on starting your training and then find that you could not hold a medical. As I mentioned, there is also the option of the NPPL in the event that the CAA have reservations.

Sorry if I have worried or scared you unnecessarily, that certainly was not my intention!!

Its not a problem at all! I am really pleased you told me or I could of gone off to spend money on flying for the PPL when thats not needed etc! - I am sure it will be fine and I shall post what the CAA say...
