Is my memory playing tricks on me. You see I am sure I saw Viscounts at Manchester Airport in the summer of 1974 in Cambrian Airways colours with British Airways titles, just after BA took them over. Now I am having my doubts as I can't find any photos of these anywhere on the internet or in any books or magazines from that period in 1974.
I know in Jan 1975 they had all been painted up into British Airways colours and an old LAAS magazine confirms this in the 1975 feb issue.
So is there anyone out there who can prove my memory right and show me any BA viscounts in Cambrian Airways colours with BA tittles from the summer of 1974.

Thanks for the link much appreciated for any help given, but I have searched this site before and all the other Cambrian and BA web sites on the net.
I thought maybe someone out there might have a photo in there private collection. Whether in the forefront or in the background of a photo wearing BA tittles with Cambrian colours from the year 1974.
There's plenty of photos from 1973 of Cambrian Viscounts in full Cambrian colours with there tittles and plenty of BA Viscounts that use to be Cambrian aircraft in 1975 in full BA colours with BA tittles.
But 1974 photos of Cambrian Visounts with BA tittles G-AOYG, I , J , M, N, P, S and G-APIM nothing from that year!

Why not ask on the North West Air News Forums?; Liverpool Speke was a main base for cambrian and I think that you will find that someone there would have the pictures you seek.

I know that the older Merseyside Aviation Society/ Air Britain Merseyside stalwarts who frequent that forum will likely have what you need.:ok:

I'm sure you are right. I started visiting the airport, and spotting, regularly in 74 and do remember seeing Cambrian and Northeast Viscounts with BA titles. Will check my photos tonight.

Hi Merlin,
cheers for the link. Garry from Welcome To www.cambrianairways.co.uk (http://www.cambrianairways.co.uk) has sent me a photo of G-AOYP in intrim Cambrian colours with BA tittles from 1974. Just looking for comfirmation know on these five G-AOYG, J, N, S and APIM. As I have been sent photos of AOYI, M and P from the summer of 1974. I have a funny feeling G-AOYG and S might of been painted up in full BA colours in the summer of 74.

A week or so ago I asked for information on BA/Cambrian VIscounts in the summer of 1974 in Cambrian colours with British Airways tittles on. Just thought I would keep everyone who is interested, up to date on what I have found so far on these Viscounts, from various sources. Here goes what I have so far.

G-AOYG c/n 256 - rolled out in BA livery on 23 December 1973 from Air Britain 2008 'Vickers Viscounts' Book. Info received from the British Airways Museum.

G-AOYI c/n 257 - rolled out in BA livery on 31 March 1974 from Air Britain mag dated May 1974 issue.

G-AOYJ c/n 259 - No Information as yet on BA c/s rollout from Rhoose.

G-AOYM c/n 262 - Received a photo by Brian Roberts taken 8 June 1974 in Cambrian c/s with BA tittles at Liverpool. There's also a photo on Viscounts.net dated June 1974 c/n 262 photo 5 of 14 page at Manchester. No Information as yet on BA c/s rollout from Rhoose.

G-AOYN c/n 263 - Photo at Air Britain photo website dated Apr 74 at Manchester/ There's also a photo on Viscounts.net in full BA colours dated July 74 c/n 263 photo 5 of 32 at Rhoose. No Information as yet on BA c/s rollout actual date from Rhoose.

G-AOYP c/n 265 - Photo on Viscounts.net dated Mar 74 c/n 265 photo 5 of 34 in Cambrian c/s with BA tittles at Heathrow. No Information as yet on BA c/s rollout from Rhoose.

G-AOYS c/n 267 - No Information as yet on BA c/s rollout from Rhoose.

G-APIM c/n 412 - rolled out in BA livery on 12 November 1973 according to Air Britain 2008 'Vickers Viscounts' Book. Info from the British Airways Museum. So it seems this was the actual date for this roll out, which I original thought was a misprint.

It would still be nice to know when G-AOYJ, M, N, P and G-AOYS arrived at Rhoose for painting in full BA colours or date they left after painting into full BA colours. Only these with Information as yet to collect on BA c/s rollout.
A shame really, I only found one mention at Rhoose in a 12 Month period in 1974 in some Air Britain mags I received in the last few days of G-AOYI. No mention of any others leaving the paint shop.
If anyone has any old Air Britain news mags from 1973, it would be great if they could just check in the wanderers report section to see if there is any mention of BA/ Cambrian Viscounts leaving Rhoose paint shop, full painted up in BA colours to add to the information I have collected so far.

Well, thanks again. Much appreciated for all the help.
cheers
Albert

BA came into being on 1st April 1974, absorbing Cambrian Airways, whose final livery was the red-roof scheme. Certainly the Cambrian BAC 1-11s flew in the full red-top livery but with British Airways titles during 1974 until they were repainted. However, the Cambrian Viscounts don't appear to have gone through this hybrid livery and got repainted pretty quickly into full BA colours with the tiny 'Cambrian' titles during 1974.
I suspect that photo of G-AOYP was taken some time in 1974, as all the Tridents behind are still in BEA livery with BA titles.

Wiesso,
The G-AOYP Photo is more than likley from the summer of 1975 or later at LHR. At a guess there where only two viscounts in the late summer of 1974 still in the Cambrian colour schemes with BA tittles on the side. G-AOYM is confirmed up until the June of 1974 in photo evidence as explained in my last post. G-AOYP was still in Cambrian colour schemes with BA tittles on the side in the March of 1974. When I visited Manchester for the first time on 15/6/74 I remember seeing them still in these colours and G-AOYP was there that day. That being the only one that day that could have been in Cambrian colours. Also on that day was the following.
Flight no CS452 AOYG in BA colours,
CS454 AOYP Cambrian colours,
BE3511 AOHM old BEA colours,
BE AOHO old BEA colours,
CS456 APIM in BA colours,
BE3565 AOHW old BEA colours
On my next visit the following weekend 22/6/74.
G-AOYM and AOYP where both there again. Also AOYS was there but no info as yet as to her colour scheme on that day. Probably in full BA colours until confirmation is received.
