Photographing at Heathrow over the W/E 30th/31st May 2009.
Location,
Two roads down from Myrtle Ave, "Cains Lane", open "Public Area" good for lift
off Pics, R'Way 09 Take Offs
On checking my Pics. noticed this rather stange looking "Area"
on the Tailplane.
Pics downloaded to show a "Close Up"
I am sure there is a perfectly good reason that this close up "Area" looks like it does.(At least I hope there is a good reason!!!!!!)

Skydrol takes paint off, highly corrosive and can blind you if you get it in your eye's

Looks like the lower rudder actuator has leaked at some point. Very good paint stripper that Skydrol!!

Don't know if it still holds but they used to tell us that if we ever got it in our eyes then fresh milk was the way to go, ( as a flushing agent), is that still OK?

I heard castor oil was the antidote of choice for skydrol.

After getting skydrol on your hands, always make sure that you wash them thoroughly before going to the toilet!:ooh:

Is this common on the B747 around there. I saw a freshly painted Virgin B744 that looked much like that and I assumed they had used cheap paint....

It looks worse because from close-up those look like decals on the fin (rather than paint)
Decals stand no chance from a good dose of the purple poison (aka Skydrol or Hyjet!)

I've used milk in the past but it stinks to high heaven if you don't wash THAT off. You can also try pulling the drain plug from the water tanks and lay under it!!!!!!
On a more serious note, we were told to see a doctor to get a good look at your eyes, (if it got there - but it always did anyway). Something to do with checking the back of your eyes, Skydrol being so corrosive.

Due to be in for a re-paint very soon. Standard procedure now is to arrange an input for fin de-panelling and leak checks/rectification prior to the paint job.
All BA aircraft have their oils and hyd fluid uplifts closely monitored via the tech log entries so my money is on a previous leak.
