Medical Certificate problem

I started the PPL(A) on 2006 and have had three medicals since then. I have a medical condition which is controlled by medication. At the first medical the CAA computer screen said that the medication, not the condition, was a problem. The AME disagreed and passed me fit. The CAA computer accepted this. My hospital consultant supported the AME.
This morning I have received a letter from the Safety Regulation Group Medical Department saying that my file has been brought to the attention of one of the medical consultants, who has stated that the condition is disqualifying under the Joint Aviation Requirements and the medication is not acceptable for medical certification under JAR. Consequently I have been assessed as "temporarily unfit".
I have been advised to submit a report to the department from my consultant.
Has anyone else been in a similar position and what was the outcome?
The letter implies I would not have passed the initial medical. Why has the system waited three years to raise a query?
If I am assessed as not being fit to fly I have effectively wasted a lot of money through no fault of my own.
I am feeling more disappointed than annoyed, (at the moment).

It is quite common for a condition to fall outside, what caa/Jar require for licencing, but generally after consultation from either a specialist in that field or sending a person to see a specific specialist, they then access whether to validate it. Had same problem, passed medical, ecg I had a problem but ame was happy. SRG were not and got referred, result £200 out of pocket but same conclusion and licence renewed. Hope it helps. Worst thing is time and effort involved fighting(and stress) to get licence back.

If you only fly singles for recreation within the UK, have you considered the NPPL licence. It may well be that you can pass the medical requirements for this licence, and transfer from PPL to NPPL and save yourself time and money.
