Anyone know if TAAG got through their IASA audit last week? Will they be off the EU black list finally?

Thanks

Got a friend who fly for them (B777) that told me they got an unbelievable 98% compliance with the IOSA auditing. Can you believe that:suspect:

Apparently the inspectors could not believe the change in TAAG technical.
TAAG recruited a private South African company to do technical training, refreshers and “OJT”.
Seems as if they are serious to get their house in order……

TAAG can thank SAA for getting them through the audit. They also did the work free of charge. Strange thing to do for the competition.

Please give TAAG credit where its due, SAA had very little to do with this audit and in any case I doubt if they would do anything for free.....
Angola is changing daily for the better......except the traffic :)

Only minor gaps were found. Company has 30 days to solve them. Local news said that company passed. Currently expecting the visit from the EU commission/audit.

Hi Eraser

SAA had everything to do with the TAAG audit, and that's a fact, you're right it wasn't for free though. A team was assigned to TAAG from SAA some time ago for the sole purpose of preparing them for the IOSA audit and it seems as if they did a hell of a job, let's hope it doesn't disintegrate again slowly over time. They have an EU audit on the 10th. To be quite honest , how they got away with only 20 findings amazes me, must have ben a fair amount of smoke and mirrors as anybody who has had anything to do with an IOSA audit will tell you that it is a very involved and in-depth process. Good luck to them, there are some good guys there but they are hamstrung by politics and a complete lack of a working infrastructure.

Hi MT

The SAA-Team, where were they bases, I did not see them in LAD...The SAA Tech-guys based in LAD are looking after the B744 ops...The only guys send to LAD were "documents" & "brakes"....IIRC?
(Im Excluding the FDC group)

Just asking........

It may have been for free, at the same time SAA are doing ACMI leases on 747-400s for TAAG on the Luanda-Lisbon route at a very good rate and have had their frequencies on the Joburg-Luanda route (the most profitable in their network) incerased significantly. So it seems like a case of what goes around comes around!

Did they not land at the wrong runway in Lusaka in April this year?

Anyone know how this will impact on the SAA b744 ops out of Luanda to Lisbon?

Will this come to an end and be replaced by the 777's and if so, what will happen to the B747-400s of SAA and the crews?

According to the rumour, the B744 will be replaced on the Lisbon route by B772's, the B744 will replace the B743 on the Rio route. Then they are expanding to Londen and Paris. Apparently Houston is also on the cards with a A340 (SAA ??). They are increasing flights to China and also looking for more B772's.
One of the B743's is going to JHB for a C-check......so I think the B744 will still be flying for them for a while although apparently they can not fly the B744 direct to and from JHB(JHB-LAD-LIS(RIO)-LAD-JHB).Arriving in JHB around 01:00 in the mornings, the B744's are ferried(no pax) to JHB......Seen the schedule, seen the flight arrive but can not confirm the reason for this.

Just some rumours floating around.............

Anybody know what TAAG look for when recruiting pilots? Also, any insight as to their needs in the next little while?

For a start you should be Angolan, and have a solid reputation in any of the other local carriers, also helps if you are related to a government minister or General in the Military.

Some expats who have married Angolans have managed to get pretty far in Angolan government run aviation company's, especially if their Angolan wives have connections in high places.

It would seem that some Europeans that were born in Angola during the colonial times are organising their Angolan passports to start to get into what is probably one of the more lucrative aviation markets in the world at the moment.

There is an increasing shortage of experienced pilots throughout the entire country. Which is why there are so many expat pilots flying in the country.

Nice work if you can get it.....;)

Well I know that TAAG has a few expats flying for them, especially Brazilian (ex-VARIG pilots I think). I've also heard that since acquiring the new 77Ws, TAAG is in need of new 737 pilots. With that said, it will be difficult getting a job unless you have some sort connections.

98% on IOSA is FAILURE. IOSA requires 100% compliance. No accolades there.

The problems were corrected shortly following the inspection in 2009. There was another inspection in January 2011 following the mysterious engine failures, and everything was still in order.
