Anyone have any experience with Atrial (or ventricular) ectopic heart beats???
I hear they are pretty common and usually quite harmless but what impications on a class 1 medical? Anyone been through the condition?

I've had Ectopic heart beats since I was about 20 and I'll soon be 65. They come and go but cause me no problems. Never had any effect on my Class 1 medicals all my life as they never showed up on the ECGs so the AMEs weren't too interested even though I declared them once or twice. Yonks ago my GP said it's nothing to worry about so I never have.

Hi Special Brew.
Atrial and Ventricular Ectopics maybe your 'normal' but they can be related to many conditions not just a cardiac problem as in hormonal with thyroid dysfunction, kidneys just for starters, alchohol comsumption, electrolyte imbalance to name but a few.
If you are going for a licence you may need an exercise test to see what happens when you exercise, to see if they disappear on exercise or increase in frequency also an echocardiogram to look at cardiac structure, valve function and bloodflow through the heart. Blood tests to include kidney and liver function, thyroid function.
Again it maybe NORMAL for you, each is unique and different.
Only an AME or licencing authority can deciede which course of action is appropriate for you.

Something like 15% of beats (at the moment)are atrial ectopic but cardiologist has no concerns about it. Only started when I started exercising more frequently.

I have ectopic heart beats that also start when I start to exercise. Then they stop after a few minutes. This was only discovered after I had had a Class One for a few years and I did a stress ECG for an unrelated reason.
They hooked me up to a harness for 24 hours and sent me home to see what happened. Needless to say I stayed very close to the couch that day!
No problem for me, I have no restrictions on my licence and they say it is not life span shortening.
So probably not a problem for a class 1 issue, but I am no expert.

I've had them for a couple of years now - absolutely no effect on my health or Class 1 medical..
