Helicopter moving map cabin displays?

Hi All.

Does anyone have any suggestions / experience of a good passenger moving map system that can be fitted in the cabin?

Specifically I'm interested in any system that has decent "helicopter scale" maps rather than the generic "airliner" maps that don't show enough detail for a slower moving helicopter.

Any help much appreciated!

I have a Garmin Flyangel which is useful to complement a Skymap. As you say the screen is too small and has aircraft charts. I think it is available with 1:250,000 charts and a larger sceen, which I imagine would be quite usefull but the last time i enquired it was about £4,000 and needed a separate gps sourse.

Am I correct in assuming that what you're looking for is something for your passengers to look at rather than something you want to use for actual navigation? If so, how about a PDA or tablet PC with a GPS dongle and Google maps or similar? You should be able to get everything you need for less than £1k, it'll run off the 12V ciggie lighter socket (with suitable converters), and when they get bored watching maps they can switch to a DVD or something in the back.

Of course, if you want something useful for nav instead of looking pretty, ignore this post.

Flymap always seemed a great bit of kit but I think some of their fellas have gone on to make the Airbox which I haven't seen in operation but would ask Santa for.

You're quite correct - What i'm looking for is for the cabin of a medium twin, for the passengers use. It will be fully fitted / integrated so must therefore be EASA approved (rules out the PDA or a tablet pc which would certainly be one of the better / cheaper solutions).

I'll research all of the names that have been put forward.

It depends what you want to spend.

We had an Airshow 400 running on a 17" and 21" LCD display in our S76. You can customise the scale of maps it scrolls through.

You would be looking at the thick end of £30,000. :ok:

Cheers for that - How good were the Airshow maps in terms of clarity and detail? Were they just the standard "Airline" format lacking in close in detail or were you able to obtain better maps?

You should be able to get Airshow 4000 for about $28,000, which is an improved version of the 400 system.

If your PAX are bored, then try a larger and well stocked credenza, that should alleviate any boredom.:ok:

The original installation was the larger airline type maps and stated on a map of the world. The system can be loaded with smaller scale maps, we were in the process of having this done but I left the company before this was achieved.

I think you are tied to their maps.

The Airshow 400 is already EASA certified but you are going to pay a fair bit for the installation
