Hello all, doing a JCAB xride soon and just wanted to get an overall idea of why they only have a 50 percent pass rate? THanks!

Mostly language barrier; during the oral portion, make sure you understand what they're asking before you give an answer. My JCAB checker was sleeping during the sim check. :ok:

Did you have Japanese or Gaijin instructors? If you didn't have Japanese, make sure someone explains how to "play the game" to make sure you don't do something wrong that could be misinterpreted as insulting.

When they are telling you how bad you did, just say "I understand" or "next time I will do better". Don't, at any time, argue with them.

There should be no surprises on the checkride. It is as scripted as it can be.

Couple of our guys washed out, apparently they were too timid. The instructors were japanese. I am just wondering why they would spend so much money on us just to give us one chance at the xride. I will keep my fingers crossed!

Which airline are you working for in Japan?

Just curious since I am heading over Friday to start training.

It is hard to know why guys fail without being there. In my class, we had two that did not pass and it was not because they could not fly. Without knowing the two guys, it is difficult to say why.

If you are just coming out to class, don't stress too much about the high failure rate. It has been high in the past but has been much more reasonable lately. When you get here, come with a humble attitude and do things exactly as you are told to do them. Remember in Japan, the process is just as important, or even more so, than the results.

6 of our guys have just done their check ride and all 6 passed. As long as your company has prepared you and you realise that you are flying a scenario that JCAB require you should be fine.
