Again, thank you for the comments about the videos. It's amazing how few people were around when that Concorde landed a long way down 32 on 15th June 1996. Does anyone else have any footage from a different viewing place?

I believe that the sound that you can hear when the front wheels touch down was the alarm from the Fire Station. I also heard a story that BA engineers had to come up to the airport overnight from Heathrow to check out the brakes and undercarriage before the aircraft could fly again the next day. Perhaps someone could confirm? I also believe that the pilot had problems with dazzling from the sun, which is logical given the time of year and the north-westerly approach to the runway.

Looking at the number of viewings on You Tube, it appears that most are for footage on the links above. The others I have since put on are as follows:-

I do have one or two more, including the Iberia A300 on Euro 96 day, which is currently uploading to You Tube and should be on tomorrow.

After that, there isn't much else that I can add.

Thanks again for the appreciative comments.

The Concorde crew filed a CAA MOR about the arrival, which basically said that the nosewheel braking had been ineffective and so the aircraft stopped late on the runway. Not particularly surprising when you watch the video - the nosewheel braking doesn't tend to be effective when it's still in the air.

Turning into the 14 loop at relatively high speed to avoid going off the end did some damage to the nosegear. Various bits of the nosewheel were replaced by engineers brought up from LHR overnight and the aircraft did a hi-speed taxi run on the next day before flying again. A very expensive exercise, rumoured to be rivalled only by the cost of the flight crew's dry cleaning bills.

Excellent videos FY,really brings the memories flooding back!.

I was lucky enough to fly on one of the Concorde supersonic flights from LBA,out over the North sea.Obviously the take off was spectacular, but the landing was like nothing I have experienced before, literally like hitting a brick wall,it seemed to stop immediately, unlike the one in your video!.

Great Vids! Thankyou for all you've posted Richard. I was at the 32 end on that day along with dozens of others, nice to see lots of touchdown smoke from the A300!
There are some LBA pics including a few from that day posted here...

Some great shots in your collection. Many thanks!

I had forgotton about some of the past visiting airlines and types, such as the Swissair A310 and Classic Airlines TriStar. I'm sure that we'd all like to see some more.

I did try to reply to your earlier e-mail, but I believe that your settings are such that it isn't possible to reply through PPrune.

Thanks Flying Yorkshireman, great video's, I also have similar footage of all the Euro 96 movements, in fact I must have been stood right next to you, mine looks so similar. I have the RT recorded on it, you can hear the relief in the pilots voice as the tower tell him he may exit via the loop and backtrack, ..........Yes Thankyou! he sighs, after he has already entered it at speed! A later exchange features the tower stating that the sun is a "bit of a devil" to which the Concorde pilot responds, "It's the runway length that's a bit of a devil".

I could be wrong, but I think the whining noise heard is the thrust reversers being deployed, quite distinctive on Concorde.

Does anyone remember the ATP landing shortly before it? There were gasps as it seemed to float forever, finally touching down at the tunnel!

I've transferred the VHS video footage to DVD, but I'm not sure how to get this converted for use on youtube. Are there any free programmes available that will convert to WMV or AVI?

Yes, I discovered this on You Tube a year or so ago and pointed it out to the gentleman concerned at the time. In fairness, he offered to take it off, but I said that I did not really mind, as I was pleased to share my memories with others. If someone was using the pictures for commercial gain it would be a different matter. I think that the pictures had been taken from the LBAviation site.

I see that there is now a credit at the beginning of the video, although my name is spelt incorrectly. And before anyone else asks, as far as I know, I am not related to my namesake.

If anyone's interested, I have added a few more pictures to the end section of the Nostalgia web site in the last few days and will continue to do so for a little longer.
