New Zealand PPL - PPL Confuser

Hi everyone.

I'm going to be heading out to New Zealand soon and I'll be completing the NZ PPL syllabus.

I know from the days of studying for my JAR-FCL PPL over here, the PPL Confuser book was a really useful tool when studying for the associated exams.

I am just curious as to whether a similar book is available to purchase, pertaining to the NZ Syllabus of written exams, and if so, where I could source such a book?

Well this is the New Zealand and Australia forum for questions so i would say this is the right place to be posting??? :}

The NZ PPL syllabus is all on the CAA website, tells you everything you need to know, not all the questions but all the info thats required.
Cant remember the exact page but its Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (http://www.caa.govt.nz) and click under pilots on the right hand side and its around there somwhere?
Or i can mail you a copy?

If you goto the CAA website as listed... look under 'Advisory Circulars'... the one you want is AC61-3 "Pilot licences and ratings – Private pilot licence".

It has the PPL syllabus in there... and is the reference for the Knowledge Deficiency Reports (KDR's) that you get on your exam results.

I'm not sure what the 'PPL Confuser' is... but if you're after 'study guides' for the exams, try Pilot Books (http://www.pilotbooks.co.nz/)...

And if you goto the ASL website (http://www.aviation.co.nz), look under the 'exams' menu, you can find links to study references, the syllabi and can order example exams.

Please note that ASL are planning to have NZ completely migrated to computer based exams as of the end of June this year... the format of the questions seems to be the same, just a slightly different presentation... so I'm not sure if the example exams are still relevant? :confused:

There is no NZ equivalent of the UK PPL Confuser. In fact, the Confuser itself is sometimes used in NZ.

However, if you already have a JAA PPL, you will have little difficulty with the NZ version. Your instructor will show you which books are best to help you with the learning you need, so I wouldn't rush out and buy anything until you get here.

Yeah, I don't imagine I'll have too much trouble with having my JAA PPl, but I have to admit I'm a bit rusty on the syllabus!

Oktas, that clarifies it well for me. Would the UK PPL Confuser still be pertinent with the NZ syllabus, or would there be alot of erroneous information?

By all means bring your Confuser to NZ to study. Law is a bit different between there & here. However, with respect to other theory topics, nothing really changes from country to country. Flying is flying, it's just the licensing authorities who try to convince us otherwise. Oh, except NZ has mountains and the UK doesn't... :eek:

If your JAA PPL is fully current and valid and your medical is fully current and valid you can get an NZ PPL without doing any theory subjects at all. Pretty good eh?
