Enjoying morning coffee in our Norfolk coastal garden yesterday - 8/8ths blue and more contrails than I have ever seen before!! At one point there were 20 ACTIVE trails. Presumably the upper winds were almost non-existent. Fascinating to watch, especially one Northbound made a sharp left turn, held heading for some 20-25 miles and then an even sharper right and continued on his way - no obvious conflicts. After the initial turn established, the contrail cast a shadow which extended from the turn point down to the sea - never seen that before either. Even in retirement the eyes turn skyward automatically - sad, isn't it?;):)

Walked into work this morning, saw an extraordinary number of vapour trails ploughing eastwards towards Dover. Looking out of the window now at several active trails and quite a number that have matured into a cirrus like cloud, looks like a Prince of Wales Feathers gone mad...

Even in retirement the eyes turn skyward automatically

And why not! :ok:

PlanePlotter from COAA (http://www.coaa.co.uk/planeplotter.htm)

This should work fine for you.

If you mean "Where on the web?" you shouldn't be able to - because it would be illegal to broadcast that information on the web in the UK.

ok thanks, I have downloaded that plane plotter, however it seems rather complicated think I need some software to work with it.

Hiya Nick / All

Sorry no - has as been mentioned it is illegal in the Uk - the website I posted is taken from a system picking up the aircraft from his aerial in Holland. There are other sites covering other areas of Europe and a couple in the USA see below.

Military Air planes with Mode-S ADS-B (http://www.live-military-mode-s.eu/)

In addition there is now a site of the London Heathrow area - with a built in 5 minute delay - which is new AirNav RadarBox - Screen Shot refreshed Every minute (http://www.heathrowcam.net/liveradar.html) - is this legal

Plane Plotter is based on a server not in the UK, it relies on anonymous sharers to upload sbs data. It looks complicated at first but once you sus out how to download the mapping for your area its really easy. There are forums dedicated to the program.

I think it highly unlikely that anyone merely looking at that information would be doing anything illegal. But I am sure that some pedantic pruner will disagree !

It is the people providing the data that are breaking the law! However, if you access data that you know is being provided illegally then you MAY also be construed as breaking the law.

Time now 16.30 Hrs. Thursday, 30th April
Location Wisbech.
In my hobby room , heard a Herc. but "Different"!!!!
Outside in seconds with the powerful Bins.
For last 20 Mins. had so far, 4 overflights of the Marshalls C130 Test Herc. with the Test Engine for the A400M .
At height "Contrailing", bit cloudy but managed some clear sightings.
Very interesting "Sounds" from the test engine over and above the other three .
Different deeper sounds when near to and direct overhead ,all this, combined with the Contrail.
Well pleased at this event.:ok:
