View Full Version : AOA: Why Endorse SLS??

Don't understand why they/we endorsed the SLS.... Why should we have to sacrifice 2 - 4 weeks salary because management made big mistakes with the fuel hedging, cargo fine, and cargo expansion which essentially took us from an almost break even position to one of a huge loss. The AOA just rolled over in this latest round of negotiations and has taken away any momentum that they have gained in the last year. Bottom line is that 4 weeks of a CN salary is a big chunk of change!! AOA: "They never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity."

Still might sign up for SLS myself - yet another reserve call out, and my overtime over the last 4 months more than makes up for the loss of pay. Oh yes, and we are overmanned, apparently.

:ugh::ugh::ugh:

Unbelievable. You admit how undermanned we are, but you are willing to give up your salary... Hey, I have some great property on the moon that has a great view. Are you interested??

What's your problem Squawk? If I can afford to take some time off now...ie trade a few weeks of my retirement for time off now while the kids are young...what is it to you?

Stop the infighting and point the anger where it belongs....the management.

Like you, by caving in to their demand? Way to point the anger there tough guy... :ok: :yuk:

Yet another naive soul that think SLS=Extended time off when I want it.

Let me sum things up for you:

SLS=Work stacked roster with the same amount of hours and time off, just less O,A,and R days.

Wake up people. :D

JoeShmoe, do you believe in unity???? The majority will take SLS not because they can afford it, but because they are going to be intimidated into taking it. Look at the results so far of the on-line vote, 90% think SLS is not required, and yet half will take SLS. If there were better assurances and provisions with SLS, then by all means help yourself. SLS is not worth taking now and should be turned down until something better is offered, but with everyone jumping for it nothing better is really going to be offered is it?

What did you expect? The AOA is a rubber stamp that management uses to legitimize their attack on our CoS. Notice the AOA didn't even have the balls to reject SLS outright?

Unfortunately the AOA ended as a union the day the members let MG and ST give up on the 49ers.

Don't understand why they/we endorsed the SLS....

It's only words, it doesn't cost anything, and in return we got a few concessions, no matter how small. It's a political game. In the end it doesn't change the fact that it's up to every individual to make up their mind whether to give money away or not, and the AOA is doing their job by giving as much information as they can. We're all wise enough to know which option to choose....maybe!

Unfortunately Bob, that is the reason we are in this mess. It takes someone to put in words the sentiment of the whole pilot group, and that is the AOA president's job. His lack of leadership and unification on these issues is gonna cost the AOA lots of memberships. I know myself, I seriously considering leaving it, and I'm not alone. I've been patient and listened to all the chest-pounding, but the follow through is just non-existent. In the end, the AOA always runs away with their tail behind their legs and their head down.

If it is left up to the individual, then tell me what is the Union's role? Why are we paying every month then?

Even the SQ management are "negotiating" SLS with their Pilot Union. We just have it ramed down our throats with intimidation.

SQ and their union are reported to be in deadlock, the company wants 3 days per Pilot and the union is prepared to give 1 day per Pilot as per the other SQ staff. The Union says if SQ want more then they should offer more in return. The Govt is stepping in to mediate. Not ideal but at least they are not getting it rammed in over 8 days take it or else.

Why can't we negotiate as well, then all VOTE on the outcome?

Geez even SQ are doing that.

Uh, this is not being rammed down our throat... yet. It is purely optional, so any decision to elect for SLS is only the individual's choice.

If you don't think 10 days are enough, then simply say no. Nothing complicated really. :rolleyes:

The biggest issue for the company is bypass pay, which COS08 will get rid of. SLS is just a tool they are using to get better leverage on our testicular region to pressure us to take COS08. See it for the game it is.

There is a fair chance the money will be returned when the situation improves in anycase. It aint about SLS it's about bypass pay, that's why there is a carrot attached to signing COS08 sooner rather than later.

Yes ! They'll use the profit share formula.
=> LVL A will get 4 weeks
=> LVL B will get 3 weeks.
=> LVL C will get 2 weeks.
=> LVL D and the rest will get 1 weeks.:D
Who will argue ?:*
