When you're a Cathay Pacific Captain aged 49 and because of the cuts from the Company you can no longer afford to keep your children in school here in HK :( Alarm bells are now seriously ringing as this tells me I am seriously in the wrong job! I will be down $19,000 HKD a month so we have to cut $$$ and this in turn means we have to take our son and daughter out of kindergarten to stop us going under :(

Why is it I am also getting the double shaft? I have to take a pay cut in order to protect people on my base who joined just a couple of years ago. A base that I will NEVER be able to go on because it will now be locked up with extenders and DEC's.

Secondly if Cathay Pacific were so desperate to save cash then why is it that if junior pilots sign up to COS 08 they they DONT have to take SLS but I STILL have too? Just how much more does Cathay want to take from me?

Now things have gone too far :=

That is seriously cringeworthy Captain.

I will be down $19,000 HKD a month

A large % of the population here only wish they made that much in a month and they manage to send their kids to kinder.

Maybe you could cut back on the beers in the plaza or buy your missus 1 less LV handbag this month instead of depriving your kids of an education.

Stop embarrasing the rest of the expat community. :ugh:

1st wife actually :)

Age 49 wth kids? So what? We adopted them here - is that ok with you all?

I dont drink beer in DB plaza either!

Cringeworthy? Why? Because I have taken a massive pay hit? YES there are people who earn less ie. ground staff but their commitment to SLS is $384 HK a month if they earn 10K which equates to just under 3.9% I am having to give up nearly 17% Fair would be the same percentage carried through out. If CX are so cash strapped why is it that if the SO's and FO's sign up to COS 08 they don't have to take SLS?

Instead of you guys attacking someone who sits in the same flight deck why don't you be constructive?

And people think we as a pilot body will someday unite? I think your replies answer that simple enough :ugh:

That's because a large % of the population never spend years, battling, struggling and fighting to get their Commerical License. I suffered for years so why should I not reap the rewards for a career struggled so hard to get? :ugh:

I agree it's nothing more than discriminatory, inflammatory and gouging in the different percentages being applied to the different categories.

It doesn't matter what you earn you always adjust to it. 15% pay cut does not equal an a 8% pay cut.
Yes the guy/gal on the 8% is closer to the poverty line ( a lot).
However we a one body of employees, why the different methods

You miss the point.
I don't begrudge your salary based on your years of commitment.
But give us a break - don't tell us you can't afford to send your kids to school while others out there on a fraction of what you earn seem to manage somehow.
Complaining about forced leave and pay cuts are one thing but to cry poor to that extent is just plain embarrasing.

People - I think what he is trying to say is that we are ALL once again getting shafted and it is affecting us ALL in different ways... Doesn't matter if you are an SO, FO or a Captain. So what if he is Captain on B-scale and the 17% cut is affecting him.(I'm not a Captain by the way). It's the point he is making not the details... Don't blame the player for goodness sake. Lets all stand together for once.

And I agree we should all share the pain equally - at the moment some are sharing MORE equally....

On the bus to the a/c yesterday the Cabin crew were all pretty pleased (1 week and all) and could not understand why we were not pleased.... divide and conquer.

Kent, just one day I would like to read a sensible and non-venimous posting by you. I think you have seriously lost the plot and your family has all my sympathies!

Kent

Those of us f##k ups as you keep calling us are going to love knowing how much our staying in the left seat is going to drive you even nuttier than you are today.

Don't sign up Kent....you'll never be promoted and you can remain an F/O (S/O?) til you retire at 55.

I hate having to sound off like this, but your nasty posts have worn me down!

So Kent the way I understand it is that, unlike the rest of the human race, you know EXACTLY what your situation will be when you reach the age of 55. And I include all aspects of life when I say situation. I really admire you for that. Most people don't even know if the wil live to reach 55. Please share with the rest of us what the future holds. We would love to know. I, like most of my colleagues, had absolutely no intention of working beyond age 55 when I joined Cathay 2 decades ago. But we have to play with the deck of cards we are dealt, and once in a while life throws you a curved ball. If only we could have had the wisdom of your knowledge of the future we could have avoided those events.

Wake up pal, you had better start to wonder why so many guys who "creamed it" on A-scales are still working. Huh?

Wise up old chap and stop acting like a spoiled teenager and start looking at yourself before you cast your venom on your colleagues.

Doesnt the education allowance cover it? It is salary being cut, not allowances.

Education cover doesn't include children under a certain age. Someone with young kids would be able to answer that one.

On behalf of Slowdownnow.... the point is our salary used to be 20 times the average monthly salary of a person in Australia. now its something like 7 times..... basically no pay rises, combined with massive inflation has deteriorated our living standards. some people say pilots are payed too much... but the same goes for bankers! Why is it a Banker can work in HK and retire in 5 years and never work again, but we need to contemplate 65 in an industry where working beyond 55 will decrease your life expectancy by the square of the years worked beyond 55! Its about time the 2nd biggest asset the company has, is treated with a bit more respect and rewarded accordingly, and it will only start when we all unite and stand as one... I can see by the latest proposal none of you will ever stand together adn therefore I have no sympathy for you when you are sacked for no reason and I will take your attitude and thank myself lucky that it didnt happen to me like the rest of the non 49ers!

Divided we will fall... stop your petty whinging and make a stand.. say NO to it all or else!

Beggars belief.

An LEP with a huge mortgage and expensive school fees for his 3 kids might actually struggle to make ends meet when staring down the SLS barrel....

"Well who's fault is that?

Should have bought a cheaper house or sent them to a cheaper school."

Well thanks Kent, I knew I should've bought the 400sqft box in Sheung Shui instead of the 600sqft one....and send the kids to the local village school, "a future" is so overated....

If you are responding to the LEP post, then I'll just have to ask: do you know the Absolute Majority of LEPs are on B scale already?

The fact is when exclusively comparing a HKG-based pilot to an LEP, the LEP is worse off in this SLS deal, as we still have to pay our mortgages and keep the kids in school - out of our basic salary. And let's face it, Hong Kong is not a cheap place to live in. Taking SLS means an bigger overall "package" percentage deduction for the LEP vs a HKG-based expat.

The thing that amuses me in all this, is the amount of pussyfooting around and lack of an edge (ie Balls)the CX brigade have. And maybe the bottom 50 KA pu$$ies. You DONt have to sign, and if you feel stronglty, stick to your bow and arrows, shoot low and maybe score a hit.

As I said ages ago, its the DEC boyz who are scoring big. They are gaining, despite running to management wiv their SLS schemes in hand, please CX manager sir, give me unpaid. I have earnt it despite NEVER being in a union when I was in KA OR now CX. And I want support from the senior guys to protect my base, my lifestyle and my earnings. Take a cut guys for the DEC;s , now theres a good fellow.

And a message to the KA A scalers....welcome back to the bus you loo$er$. Gonna quit? I rem you saying, like hell you will.
