For all those who haven't seen it...Die Hard II : Die Harder !!!!

Potentially one of the worst examples in Aviation Realism.... http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/redface.gif

Keep a look out for the Brits...airline called Windsor...worth a laugh

Being an ATCO, I cringe at the ATC bits, especially the (in)famous "rack em pack em and stack" em line...truly awful film from that and other technical aspects but my wife enjoyed watching it and accused me of spoiling it for her.

I like the tower being overtaken, and the ILS being moved by a 'light pen' - truly something from the BA time (that's Before Atari).

Can anyone give an example of a truely realistic aviation based film?

Yes, the original "Airport", before they started adding dates. There was a drama storyline, but technically the film was as good as you are going to get.

FE Hoppy,

'A Thousand Heroes' - It tells the story of the UA232 DC-10 crash at Sioux City with a few seconds of actual footage. Charlton Heston plays Al Haynes, the Captain of the DC-10.

One of my favorites is : David Leans , "The Sound Barrier " ,with Sir Ralph Richardson.
Circa 51/52 ,black & white & very understated in that very British 'stiff upper-lip' style that we used to do so well.
A SPIFFING YARN!!.
