In case some of you have forgotten, COS08 was brought to a vote two years ago was shot down by the AOA membership, and for good reason. It was terrible. And it still is. For a good refresher, look here:

http://www.pprune.org/fragrant-harbour/287308-c-o-s-08-youre-kidding-me.html

There is no benefit to anyone below the Captain level to have career progression vastly delayed (and therefore it is a paycut), only to have to work longer to make it up.

The Company is trying to sell this idea of no more freighter and pax payscales, i.e. to create a unified payscale, however in effect we will still have two payscales. Only this time it will be based on retirement age and bypass pay. It will be just as messy, if not more messy than before, and it will divide the pilot group, which is exactly what CX wants.

If everyone stands firm, (and/or if the AOA tells management to go f*ck themselves), then we can negotiate a fair, common contract for EVERYONE.

Make no mistake, CX didn't have to offer this now. They are offering it along with unpaid leave and economic uncertainty to try and intimidate and overload the pilot group. Use your heads and stick together and stay strong. As much as CX wants you to believe, we are NOT just 2500 individual voices on individual contracts. We are ONE pilot group, and we need to have ONE conditions of service.

It is time to look past this relatively short period of economic instability and look at the bigger picture. Hong Kong perfectly situated between China and India with a combined population of TWO BILLION PEOPLE. We have a great route network, a great product, and the world's two biggest countries coming into their own. Why would you degrade your career when with the incredible opportunities ahead?

If everyone stands firms and stays together, CX will be forced to capitulate. Don't let them play us off one another!

ONE pilot group, ONE voice. This is one of those defining moments of your careers. In CX speak, it's time to harden the f*ck up.

Great post !!

CX is using the old "vegas shuffle" to hide what this is really going on... A chance to slip age 65 thru whilst everyone is worrying about a couple of weeks pay.

Screw the unpaid leave man - Everyone focus on this!

Don't go over to COS08 if you are an SO/FO because you are throwing away the only bargaining chip you have left - bypass pay!!!!

Good post. Why take a paycut so that you can work longer to make it up?

Go back to the basics... if the company wants you to sign a new CoS, it is going to benefit them and hurt you.

This will backfire against the company if everyone stays unified. The AOA should know that two contracts are unacceptable. Have we not learned from the past?? ASL, freighter/pax, etc???

This year we have "one" common pay scale. Next year they will say no money on freight again and will set up ASL-II.:ugh:

Yep, a lifetime of paycut for a crisis that will likely not last more than 3 or 4 years. You can just smell the 9th floor reasoning behind that... Darth Vador would be proud.

How much leave do FO's/Captains get on COS08?
