I see there has not been a rush of commentary regarding this posting.

The sky, earth in 3d, clouds & weather in all its flavors are the greatest show that is. I can't ever get enough of the view, though there's seldom time enough in the doing -especially when things are really "interesting" - to soak it all in. I have more span for reflection when commanding my armchair here.

So, I hope that aviators everywhere will be encouraged by this and other pictoral websites to record and publish images of the unique perspectives that flight affords.

Good-o!

Just stumbled across this thread a minute ago.Very good I'm sure it is too...but noticed that the old b word censored again,Black_Bush,I've had the same moth*r f*cking b*stard problem.Seems to be some swear software VIRUS.Surely'buga'isn't considered offensive is it ?

Anyway, off to have a look at the original posted topic....

I love the view of the night sky from an aeroplane too.Heading East over the Irish Sea last night the sky was inky black overhead, and we had a great view of a nearly full moon, Jupiter and Saturn, and Orion. Follwing the 'pointers' on the end of the big dipper I identified Polaris and estimated our heading to within a few degrees acurracy. With my face up close to the front screen my view was full of sea and sky and a dusting of orange lights on the coast ahead - even Liverpool can look pretty from FL230 . .Tracing along the plane of the ecliptic through the moon and planets, and visualising our latitude on the spinning earth, gave me a marvelous sense of knowing our position in the universe. As the FO said, we really are insignificant. Of course I reminded him that as the captain, I was slightly less insignificant than him

Nice wallpaper. It reminded me of the time I took a pretty (but very dim) secretary from the office for a jolly, on a glorious summer day of small white puffies. As we flew towards one to whizz through it she stiffened in her seat and threw her hands up. It turned out that she thought clouds were solid! god knows what she thought was keeping them up there...

Wonder what John Wang does for a living? Rather more difficult for a photographer to get up to the better visibility windows these days.

Those interested in wallpaper should also check out "Caribbean Fire" in the Gallery on PPRuNe. Danny's I think.

And, Gravity Victim, taking things slightly out of context,

"she stiffened in her seat and threw her hands up. It turned out that she thought (... was) solid! god knows what she thought was keeping (...it) up.... " Trust you continued to surprise her, post-jolly!

Never take the view for granted. We took my elderly mother-in-law on holiday a few years back - it was her first ever flight. We put her in the window seat and happened to fly during sunset. She was amazed by seeing the clouds from above for the first time and the sunset moved her to tears. For myself, the sight of Everest or (Sagarmartha) poking through the clouds never failed to move me. Especially on a "mountain flight" when you've 25,000 on the altimeter and its towering above you...

Flew a week of earlies. I generally hate them. Everytime I wake up at between 04:00 and 05:00 I think of quitting. Fortunately at sunrise - a lousy breakfast, a bus trip, bad coffee and a take off later - I enjoy life again. Who wants an office job if you have these views. Five in one week

Wow, I say it every time to all the pilots I meet.

You people are the luckiest guys on earth

Them views are what drive me on. How about you other wannabes? Is this what gets your flying bug out in the open, when you see pics like these?

It sure gets my crave going!
