Shu fiy shay, habibi? If it would say the first two MINUTES are for free I would agree. Why do you want to hang out at EGHQ for more than two hours on your off day? Staff travel will fix you up in 30 minutes.

Pleeease!!!

Grown men, professionals even, would not resort to a whinge about this.

I have no desire or need to stay beyond two hours at EGHQ.

The parking charge has been implemented for one reason only, and it was coming 9 months ago. Out of 40000 staff, of which the biggest number is probably cabin crew, quite a number live outside company accommodation and chose to utilise the garage as a long term parking lot while away on a 9 day pattern. Those cars are restricting regular workers and the likes of you and I that need an hours access twice a year, from being able to find parking. There are also one or two pilots who have used the long term concept while on leave because they didn't want to pay the 50Dhs taxi fare.

If you want to argue long term parking for CC, that's another issue but is this one REALLY going to affect you? Actually it will, you now stand a better chance of getting a car park. IOWGAL.

Use to pay at the old EGHQ and you did not get 2 hrs free

At least I won't have to drive round and round for 20min snaking my way to the roof to find a spot.

EVERY time I go to EGHQ there are flight attendants in the lift with bags, obviously parking there while on duty.

Not to mention every other nissan sunny and corolla owned by people who work within a 1km radius of the building, and who have nothing to do with EK.

I think you'll find the parking situation will greatly improve.

...Im off to the buffet with my tupperware containers.

Paid parking is a good idea in my opinion. 2 hrs is plenty to get your HR admin done etc and that is free so no issues there. This is designed to stop crew with cars leaving them there while on flights when crew transport is provided. Worse still it prevents people leaving their car there while they leave the country, sometimes for weeks of leave, forcing the rest of us to park on the 99th floor for a quick vist to do our admin. Thumbs up I say if I can get a decent parking space FREE for the 2 hours while I need to get the admin done. :ok:

I support its implementation for the following reasons, there are cabin crew parking there whilst on duty, the general public in the know with no business at EK are using it as a free long term car park when they travel and lastly the metro will start soon and the general public will use it as a park and ride (saw the train testing the other day :ok:

Hilarious...p1ss and moan about 5 DHS an hour for car parking.:D
As mentioned already...top idea to finally get rid of those long term and non EK staff intruders.

It wasn't the cabin crew parking there on long trips, few of them ever did that as rumours/threats of cars getting towed that were there overnight spread pretty quickly.
Most cabin crew park on the darkened streets around the back of the HQ, as pursers dressed in dark blue dragging a suitcase down a road with no lights or footpaths is the preferable option to risking getting your car towed.
Given that the alternative is parking over on the terminal 2 side of the airport on the top level of EK Engineering (all other levels are strictly out of bounds kiddies. We'd prefer our cabin staff drag their suitcases down flights of stairs and turn up to work looking like rat****e then actually provide suitable parking), and then having to wait in unairconditioned areas for a crew bus to fight it's way back to EGHQ via the airport tunnel, and God help anyone who signs in 2 seconds late.
What HAS been happening is the car park filling up with lots of vehicles completely unrelated to EK. A lot of civilians have been using it as a handy staging point for getting to taxis in an effort to save money.

So hopefully the payment system will stop the freeloaders parking there, plus we now have a cast iron excuse to walk out of any meeting that hits the 1:58 mark.

There is still plenty of parking to go round in any case, it's just a shame they feel the need to use the top level as an exclusive running track for senior management. I'm not making this up.

Does anyone know why are they a couple of floors where parking is not allowed?, fair enough with the VIP and all of that but the first couple of floors are empty and I just donīt know why.

Hopefully people will be encourage to use the company transport when on duty and maybe with the metro starting then public transport, who knows?, it happens in many airlines, but why would anyone want to go there for more than two hours on their days off?

Sorry gents, but people who are complaining about this are too deeply set in "complain at every management decision" mode. As a few have said before me, this is about as close to the right decision for the current circumstances as these things get.

I have to give the head office weenies a 10/10 for this one.

Well, for most things, those in Jumeriah/Al Bada'a/Um Sequeim and that area can avaoid the COC altogether, since we can use the ESC and DNRD at Dnata on SZR.

These are obviously plans that were made ages ago, and are coming into fruition now.

It will not be a trainsmash guys, it may just work in our favour for once (probably wasn't planned that way, but ces la vie and all that!!)

Anyone know if motorbikes are still liable for the parking fees?

Warlock, fulltime staff of EGHQ have been issued with electronic tags that allow free entry and exit at any time. For those staff who do not work in EGHQ, I would imagine it is highly unlikely you would need to spend more than 2 hours to complete any admin stuff. And gadgetman there are still crew parking in the facility which doesn't bother me on the weekend or night shift, but does when I have to park on the 9th floor during the working week.

Hi BLiner
Could you be part of our great leadership as you seem to come to the defense of EK management on a few threads ( accom,Parking, Hats,) !!!

Wow, an astounding level of concern about this...

Think you will find that some aspects of the upcoming parking restrictions may be related to the mono-rail station where you have to be able to provide a certain amount of paid parking.

Access tags have been issued and hopefully this will improve the ridiculous amount of time wasted driving bumper to bumper to get a park in the morning.

Actually it says all staff at EGHQ above grade 6, so the ones that can afford it least still have to pay:ooh: Ahh, I forgot, how dare those junior grades have the effrontery to turn up to work in a car, we must be paying them too much, they can use the worlds best public transport system instead.:)

MrMachfivepointfive

Aircav ... Actually Grade 6 and below have the choice: Either take the company busses from all over town, or collect the transportation allowance. From own experience: Its no problem to find parking within 500 meters of EGHQ. Walking that takes less time than suffering the jam in the parking lot. At least that's my cunning scheme...

BL, i think you will find that most posts are made after people have had a "Dubai Day" and need to vent. But you are right some people should just get on with it. I just hope they leave the attitude in the car and dont bring it with them on the road, makes for a long trip.
