They received over a 1000 applications when they had advertised last year for P2 (First Officer Position).
Their selection criteria was as follows:-

1.An Indian National with an ATPL from any country would be given first priority.
2.An Indian National with total hours exceeding 1000 or significant turbine experience.
3.An Indian National who has Flight Instructor Ratings.

For all the above criteria an CPL issued by DGCA is a must.

If the applicant does not fall under any of the above category then:

1. An Indian National with an Indian CPL MER IR CLASS I FRTOL and an degree in engineering.

And their last options is just a CPL MER IR CLASS I FRTOL holder.

Let me give u another info.. they definitely want to know if u have obtained an Full Indian RTR i.e. Both Part I and Part II because they are not hiring guys for P2 position without an FULL INDIAN RTR.

Regarding their status:

For the selected cadidate Ground Classes for embraer 170 are held in chennai and the training for ac rating is provided in singapore. Chief Pilot is an Ex-IC,Ex-DN.

1st Batch of Pilots (10 Captains and 2 First Officers) are already back from Singapore after completing their training.

2nd Batch of Pilots (6 First Officers) have already been shortlisted and scheduled to begin their ground classes any time this month.

Next Batch of First Officers are schedule to be hired for the operations begining in the month of march which means the hiring would begin by abt july-aug.

If You are interested please visit their website and submit your CV .
If Your stars are bright then Star will definitely call you.
Happy Landings.

Hey Everyone,

I am an Indian citizen.

I recently completed my FAA Commercial Pilot certification and also converted it to an Indian CPL. I have 300 hours TT and 45 hours Multi engine Land time. (Piston)

I am currently in the US now to take care of some personal work.

I happened to read about Star aviation and also about Paramount airways in Chennai ..

Do you think it will benefit if I get myself a Type Rating on the Embraer 170/190 ?
Or will it simply be a waste of money ?

Any help/advice appreciated ! .. thanks !

Complete waste of time and money..
Dont expect to be released under FATA that too for P2 position so easily.
First get your indian licenses.

IndAir967,

I have already converted my FAA Licence to an Indian CPL as I had mentioned.

Now, since I am in the US with some work .. Im considering getting typed on the E170 at flight safety.
Still not a good or wise option ?

Oh i didnt no that.. but if i were in your shoes.. may be i would go for the 320 or 737

Why?
Because this is what most of the Indian Operators fly. Prospects are better. I would not get an rating on an aircraft for an airline which asks me to pay 25 laks for type and another airline whose aircraft are yet to reach india. So almost the prospect of getting hired is next to 10%.

If you can get an SIC Rating on B738 which is relatively cheaper than ERJ170.
You have a chance of getting hired by Air India Express Immedeately.

IndAir967,

Thanks for the info.

Yes, I had heard about AI Express ad for 737 FOs but I guess thats risky as well, since some guys from Jet/jetlite and a few pilots who were laid off from Spicejet applied for this.
and it also states its a contract job ... (which may become permanent upon getting ATPL/command)

I also checked up with a couple of TRTO's for an ERJ 170 SIC Type Rating ... a whopping 24 lakhs ... excluding accomodation costs etc !!

Anyway .. I guess I'll wait and watch a little more ...

Also .. are you sure about the thing regarding the Indian RT versus "converted" RT while applying to Star Aviation ?
Is'nt that rather absurd ? Whats the reason for that ?
Or is that they fear the WPC might come up with some new ruling regarding renewal of foreign RTs which might end up in pilots getting grounded for sometime ???

Thanks and regards,

Flapsto40

i think you should have taken AME job last year.
for pilot job.....you need to wait till PPRUNE is available on board for you to decide what to do in next in few seconds.

good you are up 24 hrs before your cut off line to see the realities.

well nothing like at home.

Please for god sake take it.. There are 1000s of AME s out there who will be desperate for that job:ugh:.. U R just 21 + 7 would put u at abt 28 - 29 and with 7 years experience u can further move on with the bigger metal later in life.
In the current scenario never ever miss an oppurtunity.

I spoke to the Operations Manager and was informed that they would not be recuriting fresh cpl holders for the trainee first officer position. They want experience pilots as they are new in the market and would not risk the young fleet.Good Luck young birds.Happy Landings

Let me get this straight..

1. They prefer experienced FOs ... and its true..
2. They prefer guys with instructing background especially from
the other corners of the planet..(i am in chennai FIR)
3. If the above two are not available.. and if its only a CPL HOLDER
then the candidate must have a BE or BTECH..

ALSO FULL INDIAN COP RTR(A) IS A MUST.. No Exceptions whatsoever

Hope u guys qualify.. they currently have a big waiting list for the coming batches..

since it has been sold off by ETA as of now ... and rumors that Mr.Maran is the buyer and nothing solid is out in the news, it'll probably take some more time... much longer than initially planned perhaps.

From an announcement made by Sun TV to Bombay Stock Exchange today....

Announcement: With reference to the news item appearing in a leading financial daily dated August 13, 2009 titled "Sun seen in aviation JV with Dubai based Co.", Sun TV Network Ltd has clarified to BSE that the said news item is totally false and frivolous, Sun TV Network Ltd categorically denies the same and has no such intention or interest or is in discussions in acquiring stake in Star Aviation and the news is totally unfounded and baseless.
