 I have just returned from Paris CDG with my tiny piece of hand-luggage, however prior to boarding, all cases were lined up on the apron and we had to pick our hold baggage out before boarding which makes me think, If I were a suicide terrorist I would pick my case out and still get on, so concidering the events of New York apart from delaying the flight what are they achieving at CDG and I was always led to believe that any passengers who fail to board had any hold baggage removed prior to departure and do they do this for a 747??, (must be fun in the rain!) also I noticed two suitcases on board as hand luggage, a ruck-sack with a PC in it..Meanwhile I left most of what I could have needed at home or in my suitcase because the outbound security from the UK would not allow such large bags into the cabin.

the procedure you are talking about is not carried out for every flight. There is a list of extra procedures other than the usual, 8 of wich are carried out random on random flights.
I disagree that it is not useful. It is true that since Sep 11 terrorism has moved a step ahead, but I don't think it would be wise to think no one could attempt to hit the good old way.
