Last night saw SAA 737-300 Cargo being loaded at GRJ, any idea if it was just a once-off or is it the start of scheduled cargo flights by them. Can't find anything on the website's schedules and news and such. The usual Stars Away HS748 was nowhere to be seen.

SAA Cargo has been flying that B737 for a while. I've seen it in Lubumbashi and Lusaka, amongst other places, in addition to JNB. You are correct though; information about SAA Cargo is hard to come across. I believe they were wet-leasing an MD-11F from a US ACMI carrier up until a year or two ago (Gemini? World?).

I mean is it the start of scheduled cargo flights by SAA Cargo itself at GRJ, usually the Stars Away HS748 did it on their behalf going GRJ-BFN-JNBvv...

It's a once off for the moment.....I believe cargo is still trying to solve certain issues with regards to the operation in and out of George. You might see it again this week.....who knows! If you do let us know!

It ain't happening with the 733. The whole idea of it going into George has been shelved. Thank goodness...

The HS 748 was perfect for that route. Last time i checked , the most carried out of GRJ to JNB was 2,5 tons MAX. well i hope for the sake of the people at STX that they keep the route....

Gosh! A 748 still flying? That would be nice to see. I know there is one by Federal at FAJS..but that one willnot fly again. What company operates 748s in South Africa now? Surely not SAA still?

SAA still operates a JU-52. (On rare occasions only, I believe they are short of tyres)

Beats a HS748 any day of the week.

Der absolute Hammer, you should be familiar with the type. :E

If you want to see an HS 748 still flying, come check out ITAB in Lubumbashi, DRC. They have the 748, plus the Andover (military version, with the tail ramp). Old school.....lots of fun to watch in action.

I heard that the HS-748's have been taken by MKA? one to be based in Entebbe and the other in Accra , both will do regional work for MKA , and feed from the B747's coming in from Europe and Jo-burg , can anybody confirm this? or if they are in place already?
