Can anyone please, give me a heads up ref. my foreign licence conversion. Any feedback please regarding Airways Flight Training, Exeter - Professional Air Training, Bmth - Stapleford & any where else they might recommend. Already into mod2 Bristol Ground School.

Many Thanks

Pro 1966,
I'm assuming you mean converting your SA PPL to a UK JAA PPL? As you are studying towards your Commercial Licence there is no need. When you finish your ATPL's at BGS - hour build, then start the CPL course with your SA PPL. The only requirement is that you have a valid ICAO PPL. On completion of the course and on reaching the 200hrs necessary for licence issue, you can submit to the CAA your logbook, paperwork, skills test, hefty fee and SA PPL etc - then get your UK JAA CPL issued without converting to JAA PPL at all.
Not the most interesting post on here today I'm sure - but I hope it answers your question. Also have a look at Irv Lees' website: higherplane.flyer.co.uk
CD.

Sorry, had been a bit vague. I hold an ICAO CPL 1800hrs, with only 8hrs twin & 438hrs turbine (rest of hrs, C210) On advise, have been pointed in the direction AFT exeter but any advise on other foreign licence conversion establishments. Money is an issue but also the outfit to fit myself at the age of 42. Dont wish to to be pushed around a CPL factory!

Thankyou for your kind reply.

Good morning to everyone -yeah, here in Australia, it is still the morning :-)

Due to my work, I'm moving to London within the next few months and I'm wondering how I could convert my Australian licence to a UK one; if anyone has a good advice, I would really be very glad as I've been through the CAA website without finding a real answer.
Obviously, I would like to avoid theorical and/or practical examinations....
Thank you so much for your help guys!
Cheers

adiacyrus,

I might be able to point you in the right direction. What licence are you wishing to convert PPL/CPL/ATPL???

Hi all,

I am nearing completion of my Australian PPL and just wondered if this would need to be converted. I have looked at LASORS and could not find the exact information. In short - does the PPL need to be converted and any of the exams retaken?

To confirm I mean to a JAA PPL.

Thanks.

Hi there "Willisp", i think this must be what you are looking for, i just this a few time ago altough from CPL to a PPL, because i´m still finishing JAA ATPL theory. (altough the requirements are the the same has from PPL to PPL).

Conversion of a PPL(H) issued by a Non JAA member state:

The minimum requirements are:
a) The applicant shall hold a license issued in accordande with ICAO Annex I
b) The applicant shall hold at least JAR FCL class 2 medical certificate
c) To hold R/T priviliges acceptable to the authorithy
d) the applicant shall hold with the requirements set bellow:

- Current and valid ICAO PPL with >100 Hrs
- Pass air law and human performance and limitations exams
- Pass PPL skill test as set ou in Appendix 1 to JAR 2.130 and 2.135, and appendix 2 to JAR FCL 2.135
- Fulfill relevant requirements of subpart F

I would like to inform you that if you are proceeding in order to get a CPL, you don´t need to go through the JAA PPL(H), has you can do the modular based on your ICAO PPL(H).

Hope that helped
Good luck with the conversion

Hi Pro 1966,
I would like to convert an Australian PPL(A) into either a French or English PPL licence... maybe a FAA? I don't really know... whichever is the easier, faster and cheaper to get!
I'm still amazed that such a licence was so difficult to convert... anyway.
Thank you very much for your help!
Cheers,
Adiacyrus

maybe missing something, but as this is the professional forum, you'll want to go on ATPL theory, either in AUS or JARland. For neither do you need to convert your AUS PPL, nor for using its privileges in AUS nor JARland.

To convert to JAA Commercial Pilot licence you will need to do ATPL ground course, you have done the right thing by going with Bristol so that you can work abroad still if you like and come over for the exams in 2 sittings. Or attend a flight school like I did and spend a lot more on classroom environment and accommodation.......should have done it distance learning! Or you can come to UK and get set up, find a job doing whatever, possibly in Ops for some outfit and do the exams whilst making a good impression with a company.

The actual flying part is just as painful.......15 hours for EACH of the CPL training and the ME/IR but this can be done with some hours in the sim.

Very expensive compared to the rest of the world but can be done in a month or so if you get the right place at the right time, avoid big sausage factories if you can, they will put you at the bottom of the pile and give you the run around. A few friends have used multiflight in leeds or another place in Bristol.....dont know about Exeter so cant comment.

Its gonna cost you the best part of £10-15k (maybe more!) I suggest you stay away from flight schools making promises, instead do BGS for the ATPL in 6 months and source a good school that will negotiate with you in terms of time and availability.

Another rather important point to remember is that your foreign licence has to be fully valid at the time of your flight tests......including medical and multi rating. So dont dawdle or you might have to 'pop' back to wherever you came from or find a medical examiner in the UK and pay for a ME rating over here.

Good luck!

Being new in the aviation industry I have completed my PPL, but am looking at immigrating to the UK, I realize your post was some time ago but are you prepared to update and clarify what it will take to go international UK, once I have complete my training at AFTC Australia. I'm currently on a full time and would rather finish it here and convert rather then stop training and tart fresh in th UK.

Many thanks
