While the problem may span internationaly I fail too see how this fits in with Australian Aviation?

You must be somewhat new on the aviation scene, quite a few Australian cabin crew and pilots have been damaged by this problem, BAC 146 was the major culprit.
Do a Google search, have a look around the Transport and CASA web sites.
To their credit, Ansett did a major study of the problem.
