View Full Version : Redundancies

I remember some years ago when there was widespread redundacies in the UK that our Antipodean friends were shipped home asap, thus hopefully saving a UK job for a UK pilot.

Whilst I have every sympathy with all concerned I wonder what would be the outcome for UK pilots over there in a similar situation?

Aerial Anarchist, what do you exactly mean by 'even prefers Dutch or Germans'. There seem to enough 'home soil boys' flying in other parts of the world?

I agree with the first two posts, to many antipodeans flying over here.
I know this will cause a stir, but times are going to be hard in this county so let's look after ourselves for a change.

What utter rubish. There is at least one Aussie who will be fighting hard to keep ALL pilots in his company in a job. This thread wouldn't be a pathetic attempt to undermine him, would it?

You'd better hope that the rest of the World doesn't apply the same standard, or there might be so many highly qualified and experienced Brits returning home, that you might never, ever, find a job in the Aviation industry again!

An accent or origin from outside one country, is not indicative of the legal right to live and work in another country. People from all over the World, live in countries other than their country of birth for a variety of reasons and choices.

Would your selection be limited to Pilots only, or to all Airline personell and management as well?

Maybe your policy would start with Rod Eddington and Barbara Cassini, as these damn foreigners seem to be infiltrating every part of the British aviation industry?

I understand the concern of ANYONE looking at losing their livelihood or living, but think hard about what you are discussing here!

Now is not the time, and this is not the place for the regular bout of xenophobia.

Keep it civilised, please.

I guess it's easier to have a grumble than look at the UK immigration laws huh?

I don't believe I read this garbage or that some narrow minded old frat would write it, I''m not here to give a history lesson but Britain has left a trail of distruction all over the world where ever it in the name of the British Empire. Why don't you just retire MP and take a few of your biggotted cronies with you.

Leafe it owt its not wurf it!!!!

Maximum Pete is spot on.
It was only to be expected that the Politically Correct brigade would start foaming at the mouth when they read it. This is typified by Hamrah's use of the word 'xenophobia'(Greek for 'fear of foreigners') - one of the left's favourite words and in this context totally inappropriate (and that's another of their favourites!)
We can expect those on the post-colonial guilt trip, and all the other naive hangers -on to be furiously typing their replies at this moment. I'm surprised no one has accused MP of being 'racist' - that usually follows as sure as night follows day!
The valid point MP was making is that the English 'play cricket' by the rules whereas just about every other country looks after 'its own' first.

It is no wonder that this topic did not last very long on the main forum...like most other topics it is just verbal dribble by some unfortunate individual who has yet to grow up. I am Australian born yet hold a European passport that gives me as much right as anyone to work in the UK. I would go out on a limb to say that all other antipideans would qualify in the same manner..end of story...best learn to live with it...

Biggot is the term I used same goes for you. That just about covers the spectrum from racist downwards. If we are good enough to be here in the good times then we are good enough to be here in the not so good.

That was a cheap shot. No need to get personnal.

I really cannot believe some of the diatribe on this thread. It is shameful and, at best, belongs in JB. It is definitely not an Aircrew Notice.

I fly with friends and colleagues from various backgrounds who have a legal right, in all respects, to work and live in the UK. The only time that ancestry enters the equation is during lighter moments discussing Rugby, Cricket or, very occasionally, Soccer, in that order of importance.

We have a seniority list (LIFO) and, in the sad event of any reduction in our pilot establishment, that is the only basis on which I would want or expect it to be applied.

I agree wholeheartedly with Hamrah. The (unregistered?) GStall is a bigot (with one g) by his own hand.

This is an unfortunate thread that should not have been placed on here and I think the moderator should remove it. The initial post by MP is Racist and could it not be construed as Inciting Racial Hatred. Isn't there a political party and few Consevative poilticians calling for Asians to be sent home, if there is a difference between that and what MP is suggesting, along with Agamemnon, then can someone please explain it to me.

Anyone who is made redundant because they come from the "Antipodes" would have cause to sue for Unfair Dismissal.

Max Pete, your scenario wouldn't happen. An employee is an employee regardless of origin.

AA, Skycruiser, Agamemnon, all pilots working in the UK have either a British passport or right of abode. Therefore they have a right to be here. You can get an Australian passport if either parent is born there. There are many British born pilots in Australia. As you may know Ansett has folded. Would you like all those experienced pilots to come home?
I have worked with American, Canadian, English, Scottish, Welsh, Kiwi, French, German, Swiss and Italian pilots in Australia. If they have the right to be there, whether be by marriage, emigration or dual citizenship and they can do the job then they are welcome.

My passport doesn't say "British" on it. It says "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Does this mean I shouldn't be working here?

Shytorque, probably not. All the semi retired sexual athletes head off to Australia. It's sunnier. ;)
