Indian Class 1 Med for foreign Class 1 holders

How does one go about obtaining a Class 1 Indian medical without having to undergo the class 2? I have heard that it is possible with a current valid class 1 from an ICAO contracting state.

What is the procedure involved and how long does it take to process? Would you suggest going this route or is it better to take class 2, get the PMR and then do the class 1? Which method is faster to obtain the med certificate?

btw last I heard DGCA is "planning" to do away with having to forward PMR's and is making available medical records to all medical centres. When they do this is up to anyone's guess.

As for the OP , unless you want to wait for 4 months for your class 2 , it is better to get a NOC. You can also write to the DGCA with your foreign medical copy requesting an NOC and HOPE and PRAY that they respond :E

I got my Class 1 initial fit with the CA35 form done on Feb 21st. Still have not recieved the official assessment although , with CA35 you can legally fly.

I don't have the first hands experience but i was told that you have better chance of DGCA responding to your query if you personally go there instead of posting them...

And i would also suggest you to get the NOC... The waiting for the class 1 medical is not an isuue anymore though... :ok:

you don't need the medical assesment from DGCA, it takes months for that to come through. Form CA35 is good enough.

Do I need to have a current class 1 before I will be given the DGCA NOC? My class 1 has expired but I plan to renew it in time for my CPL conversion as we need valid lass 1 for coversion purpose.

If the wait is not long for class1 here in India, I think getting the NOC would be a better option.

So, do we need valid Class 1 to obtain the NOC? Do we need valid class 1 too make an appointment for the class 1 in India?

Will they give the NOC based on my Class 1 which has now expired? I dont mind going to the DGCA office but do not want to be given the run around because I do not have a current valid class 1.

What is this form CA 35 all about and where can I get this form?

avicon , your Class 1 is from which country ? If it is from FAA and it is expired , it would be highly advisable to get it renewed. You can do it in Mumbai , check the FAA website for authorised AME's here.

As for CA35 form , it is a simple paper which the chief medical examiner gives you at the END of your Indian Class 1 exam stating that your are fit (or unfit along with reason) with recommendations.

It is a stop gap proof that you have cleared your medical till your official Class 1 assesement comes from DGCA by post months later.

Considering your location it seems that you are in Oz... Yes, you guessed it right that you need to have a valid class 1 medical to skip class 2 in india on the basis of your ICAO medical.... The renewal in Australia is easy and will take only couple of hours.... The doctor will give you a temporary class 1 medical valid for 3 months from the day you had your medical done.... Then CASA will send you the medical within a month from the date of submission of reports....

Guys, I am trying to understand what the requirements are!!
In my case I have a FAA 1 medical that will expire sometime next sumer, but the 6 months as per the Indian rules expires next month. Would I need a new medical to comply with requierements or is my FAA medical good till the end of next summer?

If you don't have a DGCA issued license you must be flying in India on the basis of F.A.T.A Validation of FAA Certificate


You are good to fly as longs as
your FATA is Valid, and your FAA certificate is valid.

you don't need to have an Indian Class 1 medical or need to worry about it.

if your FAA Mecial is good
and
DGCA issued FATA Validation is current.

It seems that everyone I asked, gives me a different asnwer. I just spoke to an operator in Mumbai that had and audit and the DGCA told them that their pilots need to comply with the Indian rules for a 1 medical. So now you have guys with FAA and FATA doing six months medicals. I guess the DGCA makes up the rules as they go. What a bunch crap with these DGCA people!!!. I think what I will do is get my six month currency on my medical to be on the safe side wether is needed it or not.
