Hi to all, just saw an Indigo Airways DC-3 in DAR, piston no less, was wondering what it was doing there since avgas ain't cheap or nescesarily readily available round these parts.

Of intrest to me in particular is why it had a Tanzanian flag painted on it's side but was under ZS register.

It will be operating between Dar and Zanzibar and will be put onto the TZN register shortly.

Will be interesting to see how they will refuel that aircraft. The pumps are at Terminal 1 which is already jammed full of general aviation. Only when the new taxi way is ready will there be any room for it to park there. That and trying to get it to the Avgas pumps in either DAR or ZNZ is going to be a problem, those hoses long enough to reach?

Bruce and the the crew are aviators not just pilots they will refuel with drinking straws if required. I guess you would slink off back to the Hotel and call the boss about no fuel. AFRICA IS FOR MEN OF MEANS NOT WHIMPS.

And sip av gas through straws they will. You clearly have never flown here before since you have comprehension of the layout of the airfields and the challenges of parking even a 206 here let alone a DC-3.

And as far as my abilities are to be questioned. I've always got the job done. Including using a forklift once to refuel my plane when the hand crank broke. A little ingenuity saves you from having to suck av gas through a straw and getting those white lips and dizzy feeling, or maybe you just get a buzz from that :E

loving ths sledging guys keep it going...but the truth of the matter is for once in his lifetime the cowboy is right the space at terminal 1 is quite limited but of course its a great pleasure to see the majestic dc-3 in Dar..even i walked across to take some pics of this classic...

oh BTW the so-called "MEN OF MEANS" did a cool ground loop with the machine. which obviously tell you a bit about their credentials...as far as i have known the cowboy has always been a great aviator and now that he is with Tanzania's finest airline, hope he does great things there too...

siguarda if u look closely which im sure because of you age are having a problem to, you will see that we are a friendly bunch and are only trying to help you out...

I am sure no harm was meant by the cowboy, he was merely pointing out the operational issues that this a/c will face, and operationally, sipping fuel through a straw takes time, time, in modern aviation, is money + pax hate sitting around scratching their balls waiting to fly, so valid point re the avgas. There is no room for bravado and heros in todays aviation, go to CRM and get with it mate!

Are you ill my friend? :confused: We were told to park at cargo, not terminal 1 while taxying, so we....TURNED AROUND. I am afraid a ground loop, however spectacular it may sound, is a lot more spectacular in real life and generally involves leaving the runway/taxiway in an aircraft like the DC-3.

Well round Engine, this all started off as a thread as to why a nice little DC-3 showed up in Dar with a Tanzanian flag on it's side. Which to me meant it was going to be here for a while. And off course operating here would create some operational difficulties that you would not have down south.

Sadly our Niccolo Machiavelli reader decided that we were not worthy to question the motives or technicalities of such an operation. After all we have only been flying out here for several years. And many of us have considered the piston DC-3 for various projects.

And yes I am the fastest little sperm, but then again so were you. Or are you going to claim that since your considerably older than me you had more competition in this age of falling sperm counts? :hmm:

For us non speakers of whatever language you are using, what is a pussclopper? Some kind of piston helicopter perhaps? Princess you don't know me and I don't know you, so what do you know about my abilities as a pilot? At least I had the foresight to think of operational issues concerning such an aircraft in Dar, I won't need to suck av gas through a straw since I would have already checked. And I'm proud to say that I've spent many years flying in the bush here under difficult circumstances and have dealt with many of the challenges to be had out here rather than slink of back to my hotel room.
