Until recently this was one of only two Lancs still flying (the other is in the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial flight). The Canadian Lanc is based at Mount Hope, Ontario, and I was privileged to fly in her a few years ago. A great view of Niagara Falls, but uncomforable thoughts of many others who flew under less happy circumstances.

Over 75000 dollars donated so far for the purchase of replacement propellers, so the Lancaster wonīt be grounded much longer:

She just made two passes over my house 15 minutes ago. She's up again.

Those 4 Merlin's will never again be heard as I heard them. 10 miles from the end of the runway, fully loaded, off on a raid over Germany, chimney top height and struggling to gain altitude. Up to 20 of them at short intervals.
The windows rattled and the house shook.
It was the most raucous sound imaginable.

They're still engines tuned for war. I can assure you that she still rattles windows. ...and I love it. She's up almost every weekend and I go out of the house to watch her pass by every time I hear that unique sound. I can pick her out every single time.

I worked under two Flt Sgts, who's job during the war was to keep them in the air. They begged, stole and borrowed to do it. If but one of those 80 Merlins that flew over my house had as much as coughed, I would not have been typing this.

Slight thread creep - Avitor - which RAF base? Still that low after 10 miles? Blimey! That said, I am led to believe that one Group (5?) had a reputation for having the heaviest bomb loads for a given target..........
