AH, Steve Redgrave made history on Saturday Morning at the Sydney Olympics by winning his fifth Olympic Gold rowing medal as a cre member in the coxless fours.

Now you mightn't think it's such a big deal, but that's five Gold medals in the context of one per games!! In other words he started off in LA, onto Seoul, then Barcelona, Atlanta next, then finally Sydney. all this despite being a Diabetic, (insulin 6 times daily) and having colitis at one stage.

4 Hours training per day, 7 days a week, 48 weeks of the year!

I agree with all credit to the other three guys, especially Mat Pinsent, that was his third! What competitors!

Steve was born and bred here in Marlow, and he is well known locally as a thoroughly nice bloke. He always has time to visit schools and to talk to his many admirers.

Now about that knighthood.....

Once had the pleasure of rowing against some of his club-mates from Leander. Well, it was more like 'are those guys in the same race as Leander and Eton? Or are they just rowing a qualifier on their own?'

Well done SIR Steven, as I have no doubt you will be before the end of the year!

I think Steve is a Holy Trinity boy - a friend of mine taught him there when he was little.
He's not little any more!
