Had a second hand message recently that we have sim trainers suggesting that the overhead panel R/H rotary (display) switch should be selected to inverter as an early way of spotting some obscure failure.

The precise nature of this failure could not be explained by this middleman.

Just wondered if this rings true with anyone...or what peoples logic /thoughts are on where these two rotary switches are best positioned.

Thanks in advance.

I think this stems from old. I never even look at the switch or panel, and couldn't care less where the switch is. If power is not right, it won't establish. Any faults will announce themselves as quickly as you see a problem developing on the panel. There are far more important things to get done and do right IMO.

From memory - I recall we used to have it set up on TR3 and GEN2 for the reasons listed - bit I may be wrong!

Some 737's had their Standby ADIs powered directly via the Inverter. A flag in the STBY ADI would indicate a failure of the ADI itself, or the inverter.
