Good Morning All:

Can anyone tell me a bit about Fly540 out of Kenya? We're looking at leasing a few Dash 8's to them and would like to get an "outside" perspective on them, if there's anyone who knows them at all.

Cheers, and thanks.

I have been watching them from afar, and have no first hand experience with them.

That being said - I am surprisingly impressed with what I see them doing. I referred a friend to them this past summer to fly EBB NBO, and he was impressed with the price and the service. I hope to travel with them this summer coming.

There are virtually no low-cost carriers in Africa, but Fly540 really seem to know what they're doing in East Africa and have established a nice niche for themselves. Their fares are usually cheaper than the competition (Kenya Airways, Air Uganda, RwandAir Express, Precision) and their service is quite decent.

In terms of "hearing about them" - surprisingly little is mentioned about Fly540 on this board, which is probably a good thing as most operators have some dirty laundry which usually gets aired in a very nasty way. Must mean folks are reasonably happy there, and maintenance standards are decent. I believe they have a mix of ATRs and Dash 8s, and hopefully they could consolidate on one fleet type, would probably facilitate their logistics.

Cheers, from one Canuck to another.

They appear to me to be a professional and well organized operator with high standards of maintenance.

Fly540 mother company is UK listed company Lonrho. They have holdings in mining, aviation, tourism. They had some issues with stock exchange regulator for some unauthorized trades....

Which Dash8 type? -200, -300?

I flew with Fly 540 last week from Mombassa to Melindi and Nairobi, I thought they were great, a bit like Easyjet with props. A good operation by all appearances.

It is apparent they are expanding to base in DAR, and there is an aroma of recruitment, also the pay mentioned is mouth watering...we are waiting

Good afternoon gentlemen:

Thanks for the feedback on Fly540 - it's always good to hear from the folks in the know and not in the office!

We are looking at leasing multiple aircraft to them, and based on what we've seen and heard, it will likely happen with the next few weeks.

Cheers, and thanks again!

Do they still fly F-27s? If so, are they going to keep em' much longer?

hey Amok Air
i Fly the dash8 for fly540, we just got a contract for air libya n the boys r out there with the dash, r u based in Calgary? i might b the one to ferry it down to kenya, we expectin her before the 15th may, dunno how true is it may be u know better. regarding fly540 i can tell u its the best company i've worked for, they pay excellent, always on time, during the post election violence all other companys were introducing pay cutts apart from fly540, since Lonrho r behind us n part of us i see no problems regarding payments n the dash8 is the most reliable aircraft we got in our fleet,we hardly get any snags on it n maintenance is doing a great job,let me know if u need any more information in particular.
hope to c u in Calgary mate.

Just days ago they announced they would (finally) be starting Fly540 Angola. So it would be very hard to believe that they would choose this moment to pull out of the Kenya operation.

Of course, stranger things have happened.
