Airbird, have you just started getting this ? I used to get this alot with V7, it happens when the connection times out to Grisoft's servers at busy periods. Give it a few hours and try again. If you still havent got an update after about three days, then go to the Grisoft ste and manually download the latest definitions. Pain in the a*** I know, butat least it keeps you safe.

What browser you using? Only asking as it may not be Grisoft giving you message but your browser. You could try changing the timing settings to allow a longer period before your browser thinks there is no response. On the other hand, Gizmocat's solution could be the one.

Gave up on AVG 8 Free Edition due to the Update Manager problem ( downloaded it twice with the same result). The Grisoft website gave information on how to rectify this but it didn't work.
I'm now using Avast Free, which is fine. A shame because I've been using AVG for years with no cause for gripes.

I'm using AVG8 and if I do a Google search, each result on the page has a small green five pointed star at the right hand end of the line.If I hover the pointer over the star a green rectangular balloon appears saying 'Safe:This page contains no active threats' plus the IP address etc etc
I can't work out from the AVG website how to remove/disable this feature.
Can anyone help ?

I dumped AVG due to all the "issues" and am using AVAST now. No probs with it at all. Only thing is the voice (albeit sexy) saying my virus data base has been updated. I listen to music when online, so headphones get put on out of habit. When there is no music on when the DB is updated it just about scares the Bjaysus out of me.

I also dumped AVG for that and other reasons

Hi all,

nice to be able to speak words of wisdom for a change ..

IF your browser is firefox - then you need an AVG add-on for AVG_V8 to work properly.

I was having the same issues until I tripped over that little gem, once downloaded AVG began behaving normally ..

firefox - tools_add-ons_get extensions

also need one of the add-on thingys for the latest version of Skype if using ff....

hope this may assist
