Hello All,
I'm just popped to the other side of the Flight deck door to do a straw pole on the policies of various airlines regarding Crew (both Flight and Cabin) luggage.
There has been an increasing trend in the use of unsuitable/tatty or just plane Obese luggage at my company and I'm wondering how other airlines deal with it. When in ensemble when checking in for duty/to a hotel or positioning around, our luggage forms part of the overall impression we give off.
e.g. KLM, in particular, consider it part of the uniform.
So What does your airline do? If you could spare a few minutes to tell your tale using the headings below not forgetting to mention what airline you work for (if you prefer not to say then just give us some big clues :) )
Many thanks.
WoT
1. Does your company en-force roll-aboard luggage or allow crew to check-in bags?
2. Is your luggage company issued or purchased by yourself?
3. If purchased, what guidelines exist to determine what you buy? i.e. does the company specifiy what size/colour/type of case it should be.
4. Maintenance - does the company dictate how the case should appear/be used? i.e. no stickers, markings, must only be used on company business etc.
5. Weight limits?
So I'll start it off.....
Airline: TUI UK - Thomson Airways
1. Crew permitted to checkin in bags for any flight LH and SH depending on local procedures/ liquids limits etc. If containing less than 100ml can be brought on board through crew channel. Normally we surrender our bags at check-in for LH and carry-on board for SH/UK nightstop/tours.
2. Luggage is bought by the individual not company issued.
3. No guidelines are issued as to what you use as luggage. up to the individual
4. No Guidelines as to the upkeep or appearance of the case. The case is yours so you can use it as you please.
5. Weight limited to the UK baggage handling limit (32kg?? ) However crew baggage is accounted for as an average weight in the loadsheet.
