http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/cool.gifI cant believe Thunderbirds has just returned to Beeb2. Those guys had some imagination back in the 70's. Why do we need the A3XXF when we already have Thunderbird2 with chief pilot Virgil?? I reckon Gerry Anderson secretly hangs out in Toulouse these days http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/tongue.gif http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/tongue.gif

Would just love to be an ops guy with Thunderbirds:
You just call em out, no "i'm out of hours for that"
"car'nt you find some one else"
"not another night flight"
"no I'm not on standby, anyway I've just had a drink"

Off they go and get that job done.

They never go tech either, must have great engineering cover and just keep flying without refering to the mel. No performance required
especially for TB2 off that short runway!!

What a great bunch of guys. Wish they worked for my outfit.

Hey just a minute,

one or two of them just might............
Thanks for your help guys and girls.

Don't forget the performance of the Fireflash (as seen on first episode: 600 Pax; 250,000 ft; Mach 6 (which it reaches on climb) impessive even if the couldn' afford headsets and had huge handheld mics. Incidently; how old is Jeff Tracey - I always believed series was based around 2065 (ie 100 years in future when it was made) but Jeff is stated to have been one of the first men on the moon - an event in the foreseeable near future when it was made.

I loved the Fireflash episode, esp. the wonderful oh-so-British accents from the tower crew.

My wife added to that episode slightly - when Virgil's elevator car crashes near the end of the episode and ends up upside down with him in it. Scott calls him on the radio : "Virgil, are you all right?". My wife replied "My strings! I can't feel my strings!" :)

Nice piccy Xebec. I often wondered what happend to the alleged leader of Debonair. Seems he is now residing in some dug out cavern in Italy with the boys. All posing for the camera after a board meeting to discuss what to call the next failure. Callsign "DEB" - Don't Even Blink - it's over in a flash. Or was that Gordon?? http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/cool.gifEven Debonair had a mole but not quite like Mr Andersons' http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/tongue.gif

I can't believe I'm about to give out the Thunderbirds URL on pprune - still, at least I have an excuse for knowing it, namely my 4 year old son... Mycroft, if you want to know all about Jeff Tracey, his age and background, and those of all the rest of the family, servants and hangers on, it's all on www.thunderbirdsonline.com (http://www.thunderbirdsonline.com)

Hey, let's face it, I would know, wouldn't I? - he's a distant relative, after all!!

Bring back the REAL stuff like Space Patrol! I miss Captain Larry Dart, Husky and Slim running around the solar system in the Meson-powered Galasphere 347.

Another favorite was Supercar with Mike Mercury and Dr Beaker.

Xebec, thank you for the FAB answer, that FAB thing has puzzled the entire family for years!!

"I always believed series was based around 2065 (ie 100 years in future when it was made) but Jeff is stated to have been one of the first men on the moon "

Jeff was one of the first men on the inhabited moon colony setup.

I don't think my wife is fully into Thunderbirds. Last week's episode had the Mole in action, and as it returned to its trolley covered in dirt, I wondered out loud whether Brains had designed a device to clean all the gear.
She replied, "They probably just rinse them under the tap" - no romance some people!

I've mentioned this before ('Kursk' disaster) but no-one picked up on it:

Why dont' we all stump up for a REAL 'International Rescue' service?

When emergencies happen, these guys can go and do the rescue, and the politicians cand do **** all (like usual) and take the credit!

I am obviously seriously sad!! ( At least I admit it!!)

As a young lad about 4 or 5, I so wanted to be a Pilot for Thunderbirds.

Virgil the Pilot of Thunderbird 2 was a my hero.
I remember watching Thunderbird 2 in its hanger having its 'Pod' fitted with either the 'Mole' or Gordon's Thunderbird 4.

How I wanted to be a Thunderbird 2 Pilot.

So its with a certain 'deja vu' that I watch my DC8 Freighter being loaded with ULDs,

Maybe my dream has come true!!! LOL

Dark Skies you and me both! Back at that young age when I thought TV didnt bulls**t me, I wanted either to be a Starship captain (preferabley the Enterprise) and a Thunderbird 1 pilot. If I was a good boy and tried real real hard the world was my oyster.

Up until Grade 1 at school I was an excelent student. When my folks congratulated me for being so good, thats when I told them its because I wanted to one day command the Enterprise. And if I could squeeze it in Id join IR and have a crack at TB1. Then mum said "Dear, Star Trek and Thunderbirds are all made up. Its called.....fiction."

Nothin like destroying a kids dream in one foul swoop. http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/frown.gif

I NEVER saw the THUNDERBIRDS before....I knew it only from a musical clip of Dire Straits called "Calling Elvis". In Brazil if it was ever on TV I was a)not born yet (in this case you make it the Netherlands) or b) too young to remeber....

But don't intend to miss it. Its amazing what they have in mind on the sixties.....now we only have to wait for a re-run of SpectroMan.. :) :) :) :)

Ahhhhh!! Those were the days. Crawling around on my hands and knees with a cushion, ummm.. POD tied to my stomach, making silly noises.

35+ years later I seem to have grown a pod!!

First, I want to make it perfectly clear that I am not a Thunderbirds anorak. I just happen to have a mate - the CEO of a rather successful small airline; who has named one of his B727-200s 'Thunderbird 1' - who is.

He says: "Did you see the episode where Lady Penelope was in here nightie - highly detailed pointy bits and very nice she looked too! In this episode she was on holiday in Monte Carlo, with Parker (of course!), aboard her luxury yacht FAB2. Parker was very "naughty" when he lost said yacht gambling at the casino - and Lady P was not amused."

My mate also admits to having had sexual fantasies about Lady P when he was a kid; and says that it was Thunderbirds that got him into aviation!

Gerry and Sylvia Andersons "Supermarionation" was ground-breaking stuff and spawned a host of shows. I recall Supercar as the first I saw, followed by Thunderbirds. Who remembers Captain Scarlet and the voice of the Mysterons? Space Patrol too was great stuff, encouraged kids to use their imagination. All great entertainment, probably made on a shoestring budget. I have a sneaking suspicion the n+1th re-run is on a pay-tv channel somewhere, sometime. Roll tape!

Re the photograph in Xebec's September 10th Posting. Who was manning Thunderbird 5 when it was taken? or was Gordon a cardboard cutout?

"Lady Penelope".

I never knew it was "Lady Pennelapey". I thought it was "Lady Pennl-lope" (as in "envelope").

English. Stupid bloodey language.

Swashplate, there is a real International Rescue that goes to various disaster areas around the world, and Gerry anderson is it's President (or non executive director or whatever it's called).

However, unlike the Tracey's it's mainly the likes of Fireman, Paramedics, Civil Defence crew, funding themselves and taking time off from work to assist at the likes of earthquake and flood rescue.
http://www.ps2.com/irc/index.htm

(According to their website Richard Branson is now their President, But Gerry Anderson was something to do with it)

Wouldn't Lady Penelope make a fab flight attendant. She could certainly teach some of the 20yr olds a thing or two about deportment. Just imagine her on the PA!
Now this might sound sexist, but wouldn't a voice like hers make some of the 'suits' sit up and listen to the safety demo.
