I'm writing about the infamous "Piggyback Ansons" forced landing in 1940, for Aviation History magazine, and the references I have all refer to the two pilots as LACs. Wuzzit stand for? "Leading Aircraftsman??? Lost All Consciousness????

According to memory (unreliable), both are correct depending on the situation

If you read the excellent thread re gaining an RAF Pilot's Brevet in WWII, you will learn as I did that trainee pilots were indeed Leading Aircraftmen (LAC's) until they gained their wings. They then became Sergeant Pilots, with one or two mysteriously being selected for commissions. Hope that fits in with the scenario that you are dealing with.
